Description

The Community Program Specialist develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates Health & Prevention programs and initiatives for Children's Hospital's Division of Community Health, with particular attention to the hospitals health partnerships with schools, out-of-school time programs, early care and education providers and community organizations. The Specialist collaborates with internal and external service providers to identify needs and develop appropriate interventions, establishes, and implements program-specific policies and procedures and helps maintain external funding support.

Responsibilities:

  • Program and project planning, implementation, management, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Represents UPMC Children?s at community partner meetings, community presentations, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with Community Health team including manager of health and prevention, director of community health and director of research/evaluation, and is recognized as a subject matter expert by other staff and departments.
  • Coordinates all aspects of health and prevention programs with community partners, engages hospital and community resources as appropriate, program promotion and communication, budget and grant writing.
  • Recruits for regional schools, out of school time programs, and early childhood centers to participate in health partnerships.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to health partners in establishing health-promoting policies and practices, and provides hands-on guidance with environmental change efforts.
  • Contributes to departmental continuous improvement efforts, including strategic planning, setting and evaluation of department goals and objectives.
  • Establishes and implements program specific policies and procedures and organizational structures based on best practices to meet program objectives and growth.
  • Serves as a liaison between the hospital and national and community partners.
  • Works with various internal and external partners to provide relevant deliverables.
  • Works with mobile health programs and partnerships such as Ronald McDonald Care Mobile and school-based vaccine clinics.
  • Develops health education resources and materials.

 

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in public health, social work, nutrition, education or related health field or Bachelors degree with demonstrated successful experience working in clinical or community programs, health education and/or other health related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in general project management, education, healthcare, public health, and/or community initiatives.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience in developing and managing relationships with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Genuine interest and commitment to improving the lives of youth in communities.
  • Ability to absorb new information rapidly. Energetic and self-motivated; ability to work independently and with minimal supervision. Excellent planning, coordination, and organizational skills. Strong computer skills. Strong desire to learn and grow within the organization. Access to reliable transportation for required travel.

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
