International Clinical Improvement Specialist

UPMC International is hiring a full-time Clinical Improvement Specialist to support the international department. This position will be responsible for contributing to international division-wide nursing, quality, and clinical operational improvement initiatives.
 

The overarching focus of the improvement specialists' work is patient-centered, staff vitality, process efficiency and waste reduction and safe and reliable patient care. This position will maintain the various international working platforms (International policies repository etc.), as well as communications via newsletters, learning webinars, reports, and campaigns/celebrations. Additionally, the improvement specialists will work collaboratively with staff and leadership to design and implement improvements and innovations at UPMC International and the partnered organizations. To achieve defined outcomes, the improvement specialist engenders commitment, fosters cultural changes, disseminates information, and provides support for behavioral and process changes.


Responsibilities:

  •  Assures project management skills are utilized to lead progress towards goals by collecting accurate, timely data to display the quality, cost, and service outcomes.
  • Actively participates in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts.
  • Assess the need for an implement an evidence-based system or process improvement to meet care delivery protocol outcomes and work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop evidence-based care delivery models and protocols that identify opportunities for quality improvement to colleagues and management.
  • Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care; identifies research issues or articles related to clinical specialty or areas of interest.
  • Facilitates/mentors’ staff for projects/EBP/research activities. Promotes best practice dissemination (presentations, publications, etc.). Participate in department-based Performance Improvement projects
  • Effectively coordinates the assessment of current operational processes at various UPMC entities.
  • Leads improvement utilizing various approaches such as TPS/Lean/PDSA or others as appropriate.
  •  Assesses institutional/departmental readiness and identifies strategies to achieve goals.
  •  Maintains accountability for ongoing self-development activities, especially related to presentation facilitation, change management and application of quality improvement activities.
  • Creates a supportive environment in the department that is sensitive to the issues and needs of that area by regularly consulting with the Director and front-line staff.
  • Facilitates planning, follow ups, and engagement of the international collaborative committees (IQPCC, International-Wolff Quality, International Nursing Leadership Council, JCI Steering Committee, International EMR Taskforce, etc.)
  • Measures and utilizes varied approaches to analyze and interpret data.
  • Leads and engages teams across the enterprise and interacts with all levels of executives.
  • Partners with all system divisional leaders to implement and deploy system and local change.
  • When assigned, completes special projects, and performs other related duties according to agree upon goals and parameters.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration or related field required at time of hire/transfer. Master's degree in Business Administration or in Nursing preferred.
  • 5 years of related experience required.
  • Knowledge of information systems and process improvement techniques.
  • Experience in assessing clinical gaps in quality, content delivery and the industry to assist the curriculum and instructional design process towards relevant, timely health care issues facing clinical providers
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, advanced Excel, Word, Visio, Project, Team, and SharePoint.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities are required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.

 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
  • RN license preferred
  • UPMC approved national certification preferred included but not limited to PMP, CPHQ, CPPS, CNL or LSS certification
