Manager, Clinical Pharmacy - Shadyside

Description

UPMC Shadyside is looking for a Full-Time Clinical Pharmacy Manager!

You will be an integral part of the Pharmacy Leadership Team! The Clinical Pharmacy Manager sets and models the standard for excellence for clinical pharmacy practice and designs pharmacy programs to collaboratively advance and integrate clinical pharmacy services.

  • This position is Monday - Friday
  • 8/hrs with flexible start times


Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide the resident and attending medical staff with regularly scheduled in-service lectures regarding the rational and cost-effective use of drugs. Attend and participate in hospital based medical and educational conferences.
  • Participate on various hospital and/or health system committees as assigned.
  • Maintain a current knowledgebase in the areas of service with regard to drug therapy and technology.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Participate in the hiring and mentoring of clinical staff and colleagues through feedback, positive discipline and performance evaluations.
  • Participate in the development and review of those policies dealing with pharmacy clinical serves and ensures adherence to those policies.
  • Perform all activities in a manner consistent with the hospital service management concept. Act as a role model for service excellence toward patients, visitors, physicians and all employees; hold team members accountable for service behaviors as described in individual job performance standards.
  • Maintain productive, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, departmental managers and others in clinical leadership roles to achieve short and long-term goals for related programs and clinical services.
  • Perform physician rounds on a regular basis and provides follow-up to issues identified on rounds.
  • Work with the pharmacy director to develop departmental goals and plans in accordance with those of the hospital, and provides overall direction and supervision necessary to ensure high quality Pharmacy clinical services as per JCAHO standards, State Health Department and Board of Pharmacy.
  • Develop education and training programs for clinical staff. Monitor competency of clinical staff by reviewing all clinical documentation and activities. Enforce progressive corrective action appropriately.
  • Assist in the process of Continuing Quality Improvement within the Department to support the mission of Magee-Womens Hospital, and in providing the patient with quality pharmaceutical care.
  • Oversee drug use evaluation programs and identifies opportunities for new programs based on hospital service expansion.
  • Serve as a resource for general drug information for the Medical Staff and other health-care professionals.

 

Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree in Pharmacy. ASHP accredited residency preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in a pharmacy practice setting.
  • 3 years of clinical experience in an institutional pharmacy practice setting.
  • Analytical and management ability necessary to establish, prioritize and execute goals and objectives. 
  • Pharmaceutical skills necessary to work in a university environment interact with other health professionals and participate in research.
  • Ability to operate pharmacy information system and personal computer applications as required.
