COVID-19 Vaccination Information

Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Lead Developmental Specialist | Western Psychiatric Hospital


The Lead Developmental Specialist will provide support to the Program Manager and aid in supervising the Developmental Specialist Department staff. Participate in the planning and implementation of department goals and growth of the IP School. Consistently assist with all department licensing, partnerships, and best practice guidelines. The ideal candidate will have experience leading a team, exceeding job expectations, and taking on additional responsibilities.


  • Conduct instructional sessions
  • Coordinates the daily functions of the school
  • Is responsible for working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • When needed, is responsible for attending leadership meetings.
  • Reports to WPIC Education Manager
  • Inform school of student's progress, including discharge summaries.
  • When needed, delegates responsibilities of school functions.
  • Arranges monthly teacher meetings.
  • Will treat fellow educators and colleagues with respect, dignity, and professionalism.
  • Observes and records academic progress and patient behavior. Presents information at treatment team meetings.
  • Assists in the engagement of multiple methods of continuous improvement- such as yearly survey and feedback loops.
  • Conducts periodic observations of educators.
  • Is responsible for educating one classroom of patients while serving as a model educator.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with the student's home school.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Conducts regular supervision sessions with the other educators.
  • Assists in the hiring process.
  • Creates lessons for each student, each day, within specific classroom.
  • Attend meetings/staff development as required and present educational information as needed.
  • Is responsible for adhering to PA Department of Education regulations which includes and is not limited to: Physical space regulations, curriculum regulations, professional educator regulations - ACT 48 etc.
  • Is responsible for coordinating vacation time and PTO for educators.
  • Genuinely promotes a safe and healthy workplace environment.
  • Is responsible for using the school mission and vision as a guide to decision making.
  • Promotes a strong culture that rewards success, innovation, cooperation, and quality.
  • Is responsible for additional responsibilities not otherwise specified.
  • Is responsible for providing relevant information for educators' evaluations.
  • Engages in ethical practice that focuses on a client centered approach.
  • Collects and reports detailed school history.
  • Is responsible for assisting with the school program manual as needed.


  • At least 5 years teaching experience in a school that serves children with multiple bio psychosocial needs.
  • A master's degree (or within less than a year of finishing a master's degree).
  • A PA teaching certification that allows one to teach in a special education private school.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in Special Education or Emotionally Socially disturbed required
  • License ACT 48 (completion of 180 continuing professional education hours every 5 years) to maintain an active teaching certification required.
  • Maintain all Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requirements, including any new requirements deemed necessary by PDE.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Teaching Certificate
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
