Research Specialist | The Regulation of Emotion in ASD Adults Children and Teens (REAACT) Lab

Description

The Regulation of Emotion in ASD Adults Children and Teens (REAACT) Lab (www.reaact.pitt.edu) in the Center of Excellence for Autism Research (CeFAR) is seeking a full-time Research Specialist to assist with a new research program working with adults with autism and depression. The Research Specialist will work on a large grant that will look at depression and suicide in adults with autism.  The Research Specialist will work closely with participants, screening and scheduling them for appointments, walking them to the MRI, and do a variety of questionnaires and tests. The ideal candidate will have excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, and will have experience with and enjoy working with young children and individuals with ASD, and will be a quick learner and comfortable with new technology. 

This position is grant funded.

Purpose:
The Regulation of Emotion in ASD Adults Children and Teens (REAACT) Lab www.reaact.pitt.edu, which focuses on emotion and mental health in autism, is seeking a full-time research specialist. There are many ongoing and pending studies, and the research specialist may also be asked to support other studies - all focused-on autism with age ranges across the lifespan.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.
  • Administer and score a variety of assessments including, but not limited to, IQ, autism diagnostic assessments, psychiatric interviews, and online questionnaires.
  • Screen participants
  • Obtain written informed consent from participants
  • Be point of contact for participants as they start and continue through the study
  • Walk participants to MRI center
  • Orient participants to all aspects of the study, such as showing how to work physio devices, how the smartphone questionnaires/EMA will work, generating some information needed to program tasks in fMRI, and other study preparations.
  • Score data and complete data audits
  • Enter study data into a secure database
  • File and track data
  • Assist with literature searches and pulling data when needed
  • Participate in weekly supervision with the designated study investigator
  • Attend study team meetings
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision once trained.
  • Perform other duties as related to the research project as requested by the Principal Investigators, coordinator, and/or supervisors. 
  • May assist in other studies with additional duties as new grants are funded
  • Must be able to juggle and prioritize tasks and keep open communication with the Principal Investigator and supervisors to ensure timely completion of all duties
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Available to work evenings and/or weekends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology or related research field.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Experience with autism highly preferred.
  • A two-year commitment is preferred due to the amount of training involved.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail, as well as organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with excel preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required. Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
