The UPMC Eye Center is extremely excited about the upcoming Vision Institute that is currently under construction. There will be much room for growth and employment opportunities in the future. The candidate for this role will manage all day-to-day operational tasks, staffing, scheduling, coordinating templates, and assisting physicians as needed as well as work with the IT department to keep equipment up to date and functioning properly. Candidate will travel to other locations when necessary to set up/troubleshoot equipment.

Under the direction of the Practice Manager, candidate will be responsible for managing the ocular imaging staff along with the operation and maintenance of all imaging, visual testing, and photography equipment as well as monitoring the secure patient databases utilized by the entire imaging department at the UPMC Eye Center. The focus of this position is to manage the daily operations of the imaging department as well as support the clinical imaging needs by maintaining and ensuring the integrity of the department databases and network functions of all equipment. Candidate will serve as the primary support structure for IT related issues of all equipment within the department and all applicable databases, including database integrity. Along with the UPMC IT Group, candidate will be responsible for installing, monitoring, and tracking all network and database projects related to all imaging equipment in the main and satellite locations. Candidate must demonstrate expertise in the operation of wide spectrum, industry-standard ophthalmic imaging, and photography equipment, as well as state-of-the-art emerging and experimental technology. Must possess excellent organization, time-management, and interpersonal skills along with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population of patients, staff, and physicians. Ability to work with minimal supervision is required along with the ability to work as a team player. This position requires previous supervisory experience as well as the ability to instruct a wide variety of audiences in the proper use, function, application, and care of ophthalmic imaging equipment.


  • Process bi-weekly payroll and manages/facilitates human resources, compliance, training, etc. activities.
  • Ensure efficient patient care and flow including assumption of other staff roles as necessary.
  • Responsible for ensuring coverage, managing recruitment, training, performance management and staff development.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies and external regulatory guidelines , such as HIPPA.
  • Assist with development of policy and procedures.
  • Quality Assurance-responsible to ensure the accuracy and quality of all scans/images obtained are of the highest caliber. Identifies and resolves issues promptly to minimize disruption to delivery of patient care. Responsible to ensure all images are submitted to current database with accuracy in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to operate all ophthalmic imaging equipment within the UPMC Eye Center. Equipment utilization includes, but is not limited to: OCT (Cirrus, Spectralis, Visante), HVF (Auto HVF Goldman Manual, Octopus), Optos along with a wide variety of Fundus, Fluorescein, Stereo Disc, and Slit Lamp Cameras, A-scans (Lenstar, IOL Master, Sonomed), Pentacam, UBM (3-D ultrasound).
  • Responsible for the maintenance, software upgrade installation, calibration testing, and archival of all device-based information. Responsible for ensuring that the equipment and related software is functioning within acceptable parameters and ensures the data storage/archival files are current and secure.
  • Serves as the primary resource in multiple locations for all IT network, database, and troubleshooting issues for all imaging, visual testing, and photography equipment with the UPMC Eye Center. Works alongside UPMC IT Group and vendors to minimize interruptions in patient care and service. Assists in the ongoing development and maintenance of the imaging department?s custom database for image storage retrieval. Maintains viability of interface protocols utilized to exchange data and images among various laboratory devices and databases.
  • Participates in the testing and development of experimental devices. Develops data export solutions for optimal information transmission from experimental imaging devices to department databases. Assist with beta-testing of experimental devices and related software packages. Delivers imaging results to manufacturers and developers per imaging guidelines/protocols.



Bachelor's Degree in Health Care or Business + 1 year experience OR Associate's Degree in Health Care or Business + 3 years of experience OR High School Diploma + 5 years of experience
