COVID-19 Vaccination Information

Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

What can you Expect as a Subject Matter Expert?

A Subject Matter Expert (SME) is the definitive source of knowledge or expertise in a specific subject area and applies that expertise in support of UPMC's vision and strategic direction. A SME might be a clinician, technologist, scientific researcher, i.e. someone with in-depth knowledge or a unique understanding of a problem that UPMC is trying to solve. The Subject Matter Expert provides guidance and thought leadership on how his/her area of capability can resolve a market need and may actively participate in all phases of the product development cycle.

You will serve as resident Subject Matter Expert partnering with internal and external customers to achieve positive operational results as well as cultivate and foster new business ideas to deliver new services and offerings to drive new revenue based on subject area expertise. Articulating stories effectively, writing concise reports and/or creating visual briefs for non-experts, and delivering compelling business presentations are core responsibilities of the position.

As a Subject Matter Expert you will translate subject matter terminology into business terms, and make recommendations to both leadership and the development teams as well as foster relationships with potential business partners with high degree of cultural competence. You will also mentor non-experts in subject area, cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders within interdisciplinary teams across UPMC, and perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business administration or relevant field required.
  • Advanced Degree, e.g., MD, MBA, etc., in relevant field highly preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar role
