Database Coordinator | Geriatric Psychiatry Neuroimaging (GPN) Program

Description

The Database Coordinator will be working within the Geriatric Psychiatry Neuroimaging (GPN) Program, led by Dr. Howard Aizenstein, MD, PhD.  We are interested in the mental health of the fastest growing population of our communities, the elderly and aging. In particular, we are interested in understanding the changes related to the normal aging of the brain, as well as in the treatment and prevention and treatment of brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease, depression, and anxiety.  Our lab also works to optimize neuroimaging techniques, including the development of tasks to be administered in the MRI scanner. The employee will lead efforts to develop and maintain an SQL database in collaboration with the clinical team working directly with participants to collect study data.  The individual will also work with undergraduate students assisting with the database and tasked to building study forms in REDCap.  Individuals with relevant coding experience will also have opportunities to assist with the processing of brain imaging data. Given that the database is still a work in progress, the individual should be comfortable working independently while at the same time able to recognize and communicate where additional direction is needed. The individual should be creative and have good planning and critical thinking skills in order to develop the full schema for a complex database.  The individual should also be comfortable working with collaborating with and incorporating feedback from individuals with varying backgrounds and skill levels.

This position is grant funded.

Purpose:

Develop, implement and maintain database for research agreements, study data, as well as assist the Team Lead with research data management.


Responsibilities:

  • Runs standard monthly reports to check data.
  • Routinely review database / Perform quality checks and troubleshoot for inactivity, and invoicing issues. seek and incorporate feedback for clinical interfaces.
  • Maintain database integrity and quality control by checking and correcting errors.
  • Independently responsible for producing ad-hoc reports and projects as needed.
  • Design and implement SQL database for reporting, modifying, scoring, and merging data and database tables.
  • Work with and provide supervision for undergraduate students working within REDCap to build study forms. Create more complex forms and structures within REDCap independently.
  • Complete bi-annual data submissions to the NIMH data archive as required by grants. 
  • Understand the requirements of this system and implement database solutions to efficiently meet deadlines and requirements.

Qualifications

  • Typically has completed a four-year academic degree including courses in computer programming, systems analysis, system development, or systems engineering

OR

  • has acquired Core IT skills and knowledge via practical experience.
  • Has mastered the essential knowledge base for an IT professional.
  • Experience processing MRI data using MATLAB and/or Python along with experience managing a research-related SQL database preferred.
  • Has mastered the essential IT principles and analytical rules that guide their application in practical situations.
  • Able to perform basic/standard IT procedures and protocols.
  • Relies on buddy system/coach to demonstrate applied skills and to guide non-routine actions
  • Higher education (Bachelors/Masters) may be required per Grants
