Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology UPMC Western Maryland Cancer Center in Cumberland, MD has an exciting opportunity for a medical physicist to join the team and work under Dr. Saiful Huq, world renowned for many contributions that he made scientifically and professionally. He is especially known for the contributions that he made as a member of TG51, chair of TG100, and members of IAEA TRS398 and TRS483 Codes of Practice. He was the President of AAPM in 2020. 

He has been a mentor of many young medical physicists who are now practicing all over the world in many capacities.  Candidate will have an M.S. or Ph.D. Degree in Physics or Medical Physics. ABR/ABMP Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Therapeutic Radiology is preferred but not required.  Must meet qualified expert criteria defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or State radiation agency.

Opportunity Details:

  • Oversee the operations of all clinical Medical Physics services that are provided at UPMC Western Maryland
  • Conduct all aspects of the Radiation Oncology physics services including regular quality assurance testing for equipment and treatment delivery and dosimetry calibration of radiation therapy equipment; compliance with radiation safety and licensing issues; providing clinical support; dosimetry and clinical implementation of intensity modulated radiation therapy/VMAT, and implementation of 4DCT and gated radiation therapy.
  • The successful candidate should have demonstrated clinical skills in these areas and is expected to function independently with excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Full support of the UPMC Medical Physics Division
  • Join a network of 30+ medical physicists across the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network.
  • The Division’s goal is to scale advanced techniques across the network to enable high-quality care close to patients’ homes.

Qualifications

  • A physical science or engineering degree required, medical physics is preferred.
  • Masters required.
  • Two years Radiation Oncology Physics experience required, five years preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics or equivalent required.
  • AAPM (American Association of Physicists in Medicine) required.
  • ABR Board eligible considered.
