Credentialing Supervisor


UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Credentialing Supervisor to support the National Network Management department. 
The Supervisor is accountable for managing the day-to-day operations including project management, process
 improvement and problem resolution for the Credentialing areas. This role interacts with Health Plan staff, PHO Executive
 Directors, physicians and others involved in the credentialing process. This is a hybrid and work-from- home position,
 working in the office 1 day a week and as needed for collaboration.

The Supervisor is responsible for handling day-to-day operations of the credentialing function. They will monitor compliance with all regulatory requirements, policies and procedures in conjunction with the staff. Additionally, they will prepare the agenda for the Credentialing Committee and communicate with the Chair of the Committee in advance of the meeting.



  • Ensure credentialing process is following the Department of Health, National Committee for Quality Assurance standards, Department of Public Welfare and Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services.
  • Develop, monitor, and continuously improve credentialing processes to ensure data integrity and consistency with strategic corporate goals and objectives.
  • Establish work plans to meet goals and objectives of the department.
  • Function as the liaison to the Credentialing Chairperson to coordinate the activities of the Credentialing Committee.
  • Monitor and answer email communications from both internal and external customers.
  • Review of Kronos payroll system maintaining accuracy to staff work schedule.
  • Attend and participate in Quality Physician Advisory Council (QPAC) Committee Meetings as needed. 
  • Participate on cross-functional project teams.
  • Provide supervision and direction to credentialing staff to meet departmental objectives.
  • Maintain staff performance by evaluating, coaching, and establishing a Performance Improvement plan for an employee when necessary.
  • Contribute to the organization's effectiveness by identifying issues, providing information, recommending courses of action, and implementing appropriate action plans.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelors' Degree prefered. (Previous applicable experience may be substituted for the educational requirements).
  • Understanding of health insurance industry, with a focus on managed care delivery systems. 
  • One year related experience in working with physicians and hospital providers
  • NCQA  experience required
  • Supervisory skills and project management experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to handle multiple priorities/projects required
  • PC proficiency and familiarity with all standard software packages required
