UPMC Hamot is seeking a Radiology Practitioner Assistant to join their team! The Radiology Practitioner Assistant will, under direct physician supervision: 

  • Provide patient care and perform procedures.
  • Determine normal from abnormal imaging examinations and assess the radiographic findings to determine if immediate radiologist interpretation is needed.
  • Build rapport and cooperative relationship w/ patients, technicians, and physicians.
  • May be responsible for quality assurance, supply management, and technician call schedules.
  • In conjunction with the physicians, develop and implement protocols.
  • May be an educational trainer for all new staff technologists regarding anatomy, physiology, protocol implementation, equipment and safety

This position will be scheduled Monday-Friday and is a day shift position. This position requires the performance of fluoro procedures, noninvasive procedures, and work in a positive team environment at a level 2 trauma center with state of the art Imaging equipment which includes remote fluoro.   • Responsibilities:


  • Complete patients rounds, update medical records with clinical progress.
  • Maintain current education in emerging techniques, procedures and therapies per CBRPA requirements; maintain ACLS.
  • Interact appropriately with Radiology department, hospital personnel and referring physicians regarding patient care.
  • Correspond with physicians and medical practitioners regarding their patients for future procedures and post-operative.
  • After demonstrating competency and under the guidance, supervision (see further definition below) and discretion of the supervising physician, perform procedures including, but not limited to the following: Fluroscopic procedures (static and dynamic), Ultrasound, Computed Tomography or Fluoroscopic guided biopsies, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography or Fluoroscopic drainages and drainage catheter placements, Vascular Access Procedures, Arteriograpms, Venograms, Venous Access procedures, Declots, Permacath Placements, Central Venous Line Placement, IVC Filter Placement, Fistulagrams, Gastrostomies and spinal procedures.
  • Provide and review post-procedure discharge instructions with appropriate nursing staff, patient and family members.
  • Maintain values congruent with Code of Ethics, as well as adhering to national, institutional and/or departmental standards, policies and procedures regarding the standards of patient care.
  • Adminster and/or order contrast media under the supervision of a physician.
  • Complete pre-procedure clinical evaluations including brief history and physical examinations.
  • Write and dictate procedure summaries and radiology reports.


  • Must be a graduate of an approved Radiology Practitioner Assistant Program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Radiology is required.
  • Hospital privileges must be approved prior to onset of duties.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • ARRT Certificate
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
