The Expert’s primary responsibility is to lead high quality data analytics and visualization projects in support of the corporate 340B team engagements, in a timely manner and in accordance with professional standards and perform the initial review of relevant work products of more junior staff in conjunction with their supervisor. Accountable for developing and enhancing departmental data analytics and scripts, the Expert’s team is responsible for leveraging organizational data for analysis, monitoring, investigation, and planning activities that require interdisciplinary collaboration with pharmacy, supply chain and finance.
This positon will full-time work from home with the exception of quarterly meetings.
Responsibilities:

- Department Goals:Successfully manages many competing demands and is able to manage complete projects on time and within budgeted hours.Enhance the culture through the execution of analytics.Increase departmental capabilities for full population testing.Meets departmental goals for productivity and is proactive in searching out additional tasks and projects during downtimes.Regularly leads departmental and organizational special projects.Possesses strong public speaking / presentation skills and is comfortable leading internal and external meetings, including explaining issues to executives and handling constructive disagreements to resolution. Builds and maintains collaborative relationships with key subject matter experts and leaders outside of the department who are central to furthering Data Analytics initiatives (i.e. data warehouse teams, information security, etc.).In coordination with the Director, performs initial review of code/visualizations on select projects and provides feedback to more junior staff on their performance. Trains departmental staff on appropriate tools and techniques of data analytics and fraud forensics.Maintains a departmental reputation for providing expert-level advice on technical and data related matters.Proactively fosters an understanding of, and monitors changes in, the Data Analytics and Healthcare industries.Assists department Managers and Directors in the evaluation of applicants for open positions.
- Risks & Industry:Identifies and contributes analytic approaches that improve risk assessment, planning, fieldwork, root cause identification, and performance of targeted monitoring.Combines a mastery of risk & control concepts with data and business process analyses to propose and execute high-value data analyses and visualizations.
- Standard Responsibilities:Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
- Technology:Possesses expert knowledge of data validation, data analysis and visualization techniques, software development methods, data querying and manipulation technologies, and/or relevant business intelligence tools.Maintains and actively grows proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (ACL, Python, R, SAS, SQL, etc.).Possesses deep understanding of software development techniques and systems to support quickly learning and implementing new technical tools or solutions.Works with the Director to distribute technical and procedural knowledge across the team and identify relevant training where needed.Consistently writes code and prepares visualizations in conformance with departmental standards and industry best practices.Readily approaches more complex business/analytics problems and leads the development of appropriate solutions.Is capable and responsible for peer-reviewing code and visualizations created by other staff in a constructive, professional manner.Stays current with new and emerging technologies in data analysis and changes in the Organization's IT systems.Is proficient with extracting and combining data from a variety of data warehouses, reporting tools, and systems in use at UPMC.Is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving departmental scripts, automated tasks, and risk monitoring metrics.Serves as subject matter expert in the daily execution of data analytics and fraud technologies and techniques to more junior staff on DA team and across the department. Collaborates with colleagues and peers in other similar roles across the organization.
- Workpapers & Reports:Utilizes and actively contributes enhancements to Data Analytics templates and guidance documents. Also assists with communication/training of these standards throughout the department.Validate source data integrity and evaluate results and variances from expectations. Script analytics in accordance with departmental standards and coding best practices in ACL and Python (or other tools) to allow for repeatability, QA testing, and peer reviews.Participates in departmental initiatives to improve the use of data visualization in team reports.Capable of developing and approving strong testing steps for complex statistical analytics opportunities.Monitors project work for timeliness and adherence to departmental quality standards and validates evidence is organized to fully support conclusions and findings.Identifies root cause of complex issues and proposes valuable and effective solutions.Reviews all workpapers as appropriate and finalizes deliverable drafts for review by Management, ensuring professional writing and value-added industry perspective.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 6 years related work experience (or 4 years and preferred certification or Master's degree), including 4 years of experience in the areas of Data/Business Analytics, Data Science, Software Development, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Information Technology/Information Security/ Auditing. Professional Certification or Master's degree are required
- Degree Preferences: Data Science, Business Analytics, Health Information Technology, Information Technology/Systems, Information Security, Computer Forensics, Computer Science.Experience Preferences: Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Programming/Software engineering, Statistics, Machine Learning, Business Intelligence, Auditing, Information Technology, Health Care, Database Management
- Certification Preferences: CISA, CISSP, CFE, CIA, ACDA, SAS Certified, DASCA Certified, or other data analytics certification, CPA, CHC, CCEP, Six Sigma.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certification or Master's is required.
