UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

UPMC Innovative Homecare Solutions is hiring a full-time Paramedic role for the Pittsburgh area. We offer eight (8), 12-, or 16-hour shifts.  The team is currently operating from 7:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. seven (7) days per week.   Scheduling is flexible but some weekends (and eventual overnights) will be scheduled.  It is expected to become 24/7 in future due to the high demand. You begin and end your day at our Northside location.  

Our Advanced Care Paramedics function with an expanded scope of practice and remote physician support via telemedicine to prevent ER visits by treating acutely ill patients in place. This is a new and innovative service in its first year.  Our field staff have an enormous role in shaping the development of the program and we actively solicit and act on feedback and suggestions.  There is a lot of focus on professional development and expanded scope of practice, with opportunities for individual staff members to take ownership of projects and initiatives that match their interests.

  • Clinical Provide advanced clinical care to ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care; accessing online medical command or other resources when appropriate, and employing the skills, competencies, and judgment necessary to provide patient care in any environment; using resources that are required or made available. Documents appropriate assessment, interventions, and other pertinent patient information in a timely manner. Collects and promptly processes demographic, medical necessity, and other necessary billing information. Participates constructively in the peer-review driven quality improvement program
  • Clinical: Leverage expanded scope of practice, telemedicine technology, and physician partnerships to provide quality acute care in the home, preventing ER visits and hospital admissions.
  • Operations: Ensure equipment and personnel maintain readiness for efficient response and participate in process improvement and program development. 
  • Safety: Promote the safety of the team and the patient in all work activities including vehicle operations and patient care.
  • Outreach: Represent the program to patients and other healthcare providers through professional communication, quality documentation, and a commitment to problem-solving. 



  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Three years clinical experience in prehospital or hospital care.
  • Must be eligible to receive medical command authorization by the Medical Director, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to any residence or venue of care within the defined service area.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job training.
  • Must have the ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam that includes a fitness for duty physical exam, hearing evaluation, and be declared fit for duty by the Medical Director.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
 National Institute of Health Stroke Score (NIHSS) (required within 90-days of hire)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Driver's License
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification
  • Paramedic
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
