UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. UPMC Corporate is hiring a Manager, International Communications to join our team at the US Steel Tower.  This role will work Monday through Friday during daylight business hours.  The position will have the opportunity to have a hybrid schedule with in office days and work from home!

The manager will be working closely with Public Relations and UPMC International leadership, the Manager, International Communications, supports and executes Internal Communications strategies across UPMC International division locations in China, Ireland, Italy, and the U.S. With continued division growth, the Manager plays an influential role in shaping organizational culture advancement by supporting strong executive and change communications and powerful storytelling and strategies to advance employee engagement and overall experiences.Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, the Manager of International Communications plans and executes strategies, tactics, and approaches to support UPMC's mission, vision, and values.The Manager has flexibility to be based at any UPMC location and work remotely an average of three days per week.



  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Adheres to all department processes as established for editing content, submitting to publications, supporting governance and other processes outlined by department leadership.
  • Takes responsibility for approvals and accuracy of information communicated.
  • Independently plans, researches, and writes copy that is creative, well organized, concise, appropriate to the audience, channel, and purpose, and aligned with department style.
  • Supports to advance the UPMC Experience by executing creative strategies for staff recognition, patient experience storytelling, and leader development education and best practices.
  • Develops thoughtful executive, change, and crisis communications plans and messaging.
  • Partners to align with Communications colleagues in China, Ireland, and Italy, with flexibility to support across various time zones.
  • Amplifies International progress and news internally across countries and supports to share relevant U.S.-based system updates with UPMC International leaders and staff.
  • Supports channels development and improvements as communications strategies evolve across countries.
  • Designs communications strategies targeting leaders and frontline staff to achieve goals aligned with system priorities for UPMC International.
  • Serves as a strategic communications consultant with ability to independently advise and collaborate with internal UPMC partners, including executives and managers.
  • Develops and implements targeted communications strategies to support and advance UPMC International division objectives.
  • Demonstrates service-oriented behavior in line with UPMC Values in interactions with internal partners and co-workers.



  • Undergraduate degree in Public Relations, Communications, Business, Journalism, English, Health Sciences, or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in Communications, Journalism, or related field required.
  • Project management experience required.
  • Experience providing clients with strategic counsel required.
  • Experience in an academic medical center, hospital, or health care industry is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
  • Ability to translate scientific/medical information to a lay person's understanding.
