UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Research Assistant – Basic Science to support the Pharmaceutics Laboratory!
This position will work standard workday shifts. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.
This position is grant funded.
The Pharmaceutics Laboratory at the Magee Womens Research Institute, University of Pittsburgh, is currently accepting applicants. Research in this laboratory lies in design of drug delivery and targeting systems for application in the areas of infectious disease and women’s health. A major focus in the lab is centered on the design of pharmaceutical products and drug delivery systems for the prevention of HIV and contraception. Another area is focused on understanding drug transport, metabolism, and drug-drug interactions when pharmaceutical products are administered intravaginally. The laboratory is developing pharmaceutical products and translating them from the bench to first in human clinical testing.
This position will be responsible for performing experiments as outlined in the protocol including solution and sample preparation, conducting experiment, operating analytical instrument, record keeping, data analysis and report generation.
Under supervision of Faculty or Research Associate, accurately completes research projects according to established study design and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, label, store and dispose of reagents, and calibrates equipment for research projects.
- Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function.
- Maintain laboratory inventory, including timely ordering and receipt of required supplies and their proper storage.
- Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
- Perform approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting of results.
- Maintain a safe clean laboratory-working environment including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage, by conforming to laboratory and hospital policies and standards.
- Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
- Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or other basic science.
- Basic or applied science field including chemistry, biology, etc. preferred
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary for handling and processing specimens for testing, including preparation of specimens, operation of laboratory equipment, microscopic examination, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately collect, store and interpret research data.
