UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring a full-time Patient Service Coordinator/Medical Assistant to provide clinical support to our Washington, PA location. This will be a Flex Full-Time position and will work between 56 to 80 hours per pay period (2 weeks) with Monday-Friday daylight hours and receive full-time benefits. No weekends required! This position offers a $500 sign-on bonus.

The Medical Assistant will be responsible for assisting physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. Daily tasks will include taking vital signs, registering patients, scheduling testing, exams, and treatments, as well as stocking supplies, and cleaning exam rooms.
The Patient Service Coordinator is an advanced Medical Assistant type role. This position will be utilized in a dual capacity; at times the staff member will be asked to function like a Medical Assistant, rooming and triaging patients, stocking supplies, cleaning rooms, etc. At other times, this staff member will be asked to function in the business office where they will answer phones, schedule patients, check in and check out patients, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
- Completes vital signs, specimen testing, and EKGs as needed.
- Organizes daily schedule of patients, greets patients, and assigns rooms.
- Orders supplies for the unit as necessary.
- Maintains competency requirements.
- Coordinates the ordering of blood products in collaboration with RNs, Blood Bank, and Laboratory.
- Greets each person entering the clinic, and identifies self and role. Explains processes and procedures to new patients and assists with the paperwork.
- Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
- Maintain high visibility. Stationed in a prominent area in the clinic that is readily identifiable and accessible to customers.
- Anticipates and responds to meet customer needs.
- Respond appropriately to crisis situation as a team member.
- Participates in interdisciplinary activities such as staff meetings and other committees as assigned.
- Assists in the registration of patients including verification and confirmation of health insurance coverage.
- Immediately report any situation that may impact the safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
- Provides front desk coverage as assigned.
- Continuously monitors the environment and facilitates correction of any detraction from the appearance, comfort, and safety of the clinic.
- Account for all customers in the clinic.
- Provides lobby/waiting room coordination and supervision.
- Serve as liaison between customers and clinic staff.
- Collects 100% of copays daily and correctly balances at the end of each day.
- Coordinates scheduling to include testing.
- Coordinates and manages the bone marrow biopsy schedule for multiple practitioners and bone marrow technician.
Qualifications

Medical Assistant:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant program preferred or equivalent hospital program or a minimum of one (1) year of direct patient care experience.
Medical Assistant II:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) OR at least 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required.
- Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
Patient Service Coordinator:
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of direct patient care and or phlebotomy experience.
- Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals from multi-disciplinary groups.
- Possesses excellent organizational skills.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy licensure preferred.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34
