UPMC Shadyside is hiring full-time Cardiac Technicians to support their new Centralized Telemetry Unit (CTU). As we expand, we need your talent now more than ever! Purpose:
The purpose of the Cardiac Technician I in the CTU is to provide continuous visual surveillance of numerous patients on cardiac rhythm monitors and notify appropriate nursing personnel immediately of alerts according to protocols.
Responsibilities:
- Provides visual surveillance of numerous cardiac monitors simultaneously while maintaining 100% accuracy in terms of alarm recognition and notification.
- Maintain alarms per policy.
- Documents notification of alerts
- Support peer personnel in daily work assignments maintaining a constant awareness of the nature and volume of work and takes necessary actions to expedite coverage of responsibilities.
- Cleans equipment on a shift basis.
- Stocks supply areas and distributes inventory.
- Notifies key personnel of manager of need for supplies and reports need for equipment service and repair to manager, bio-med and IT.
- Responsible for personal job skill development and maintaining clinical expertise.
- Attends in-service education and skill development courses as offered.
- Promotes and maintains desired public, interpersonal, and interdepartmental relationships and patient confidentiality.
- Is available to cover subsequent shift if staffing is inadequate.
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 6 months experience in a medical related field is preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet the department's needs that include evenings, weekends, holidays and weekend/holiday On-Call required.
- Basic typing and computer skills are also required.
- Transcription skills are preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant or Cardiac Technician course preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34
