UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring an OR Business Manager to join our team in the exciting and dynamic world of Perioperative Services!
The OR Business Manager will manage data collection and quality monitoring (including metrics for on-time starts, scheduling accuracy, turnover time, block utilization, etc.). Serving as a point person for contracts, supplies, and product / equipment trials (particularly with regards to evaluating Capital fund purchases), with a focus on reducing cost-per-case. Role also includes a strategic finance component, including evaluating billing and scheduling opportunities for increased revenue.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, daylight. No nights, weekends, or holidays. There will be some flexibility for this role to work remotely depending on the candidate and their previous background.
Purpose:
Accountable for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the Surgical Services business activities and materials resources. Responsible for the management and preparation of operational and capital budgets, including cost/benefit analysis for investments in new equipment, systems and technologies. Accountable for determining actual product line costs, fixed and variable factors for OR cases and negotiating prices with third party payers and vendor trials. Works independently with delegated authority and responsibility from the Administrative Director for the operation of specific business and financial aspects of the division and actively participates in marketing the division's product lines to medical staff, inter-departmental staff, community and fostering surgical services philosophy, mission, and goals.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and monitors surgical services operational and capital budgets in collaboration with unit managers.
- Maintains utilization statistics for department planning, including dashboard indicators reflecting on time starts, block and OR utilization, turnover time, etc.
- Collaborates with surgical leadership to do strategic planning and identify areas for market share growth, develop business plans, and determine service line goals and opportunity.
- Maintains liaison relationship with various departments and facilitates multidisciplinary participation in problem solving, planning, and coordination of services.
- Monitors billing functions, chargemaster, and ensures appropriate corporate compliance; monitors trends in reimbursement.
- Provides direction and leadership for value analysis, and manages financial projects as assigned.
- Monitors staffing in surgical services departments and analyzes productivity reports, with unit managers.
- Provides high level financial analytical proficiency for surgical services and addresses any inconsistencies in reports, including Revenue/Expense, DTB, Accts Payable, Procurement Reports, FTE, etc.
- Maintains OR Capital Inventory and collaborates with OR Administrative Director to formulate an OR Capital Replacement Plan.
- Utilizes data to develop strategies to decrease cost per case and identifies opportunities to standardize equipment, supplies, and implants. Works collaboratively with OR Management to facilitate trials. Shares cost-effective concepts to optimize patient outcomes without sacrificing quality.
Qualifications
- BS in Finance/Management/Business preferred, along with demonstrated success/background in a related field.
- Prefer candidate having familiarity with health care, surgical services, management, and trends impacting reimbursement and costs.
- Previous demonstrated ability to promote favorable working relationships with surgeons, staff, and vendors is highly desirable.
- Five years experience in business field with progressive management experience.
