UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Manage and direct all functions related to quality management and improvement, in compliance with the Commonwealth ofPennsylvania Department of Health quality assurance regulations, NCQA, URAC and all other regulatory agencies. Leads patient safety, infection prevention, patient relations, and culture of safety work at Children's Hospital of UPMC. 


  • Manage oversight of Quality Management Manager activities.
  • Oversee the creation of continuous quality improvement structure and environment.
  • Ability to propose and implement creative solutions to problems and to achieve a high level of quality within the organization
  • Monitor data collection and aggregation processes.
  • Facilitate the achievement of appropriate accreditations.
  • Ability to adequately supervise staff.
  • Excellent written, computer, and oral communication skills.
  • Promote principles of prevention, early detection and cost effective utilization of services.
  • Independent problem solving based on sophisticated knowledge of managed care including quality management, outcomes, the provider network, claims, fiscal, Care Management policies, members' rights and responsibilities, and the operating practices of the organization.
  • Oversee the training of providers, members, and staff on issues related to quality, including items such as quality monitoring, quality work plan, significant member incidents, benchmarking.
  • Oversee and present quality improvement reports to the Board Quality Improvement Committee.
  • The position reports to the VP of Medical Affairs of the organization. The incumbent participates in the organization's senior management team. The Senior Director of Quality Management VP of Medical Affairs, and Chief Medical Officer have direct oversight and responsibility for all and quality aspects of the organization
  • Coordinate with all departments within the corporation regarding the CQI process.
  • Responsiveness to deadlines and has work completed on or before deadline 98% of the time
  • Oversee all quality activities and the output of quality management staff.




  • License preferred.
  • Master's degree required.
  • Minimum10 years clinical experience,
  • 5 years in a management capacity.
  • History of quality management implementation and participation.
  • Ability to implement quality assurance policies and to enforce those policies through appropriate action.
  • Ability to maintain effective professional liaison with all levels of executive and medical staff, including professional and institutional providers of care.
  • Ability to implement programs of quality care analysis, peer review, and professional education at the request of the Chief Medical Officer.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Pennsylvania Licensure: (LSW, LCSW, licensed MFT, licensed RN (with BSN) and/or licensed PhD (psychologist) preferred.

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
