Description
Purpose:
Psych Care Plus is the admission and outpatient scheduling service for UPMC Behavioral Health Service Line for Western Psychiatric Hospital. The Clinician, working in a call center environment, takes referrals from hospitals, community providers, or the public, and facilitates disposition to the appropriate level of care.
This position has a hybrid schedule with the option for occasional work from home!
Responsibilities:
- Provides accurate, timely information to coworkers, physicians, outside agencies, with a professional and courteous manner
- Works to maintain high census for UPMC Behavioral Health service line and demonstrates appropriate patient assignment
- Ability to verbally present the case to physicians and others
- Demonstrates UPMC Values in contacts with coworkers, patients, the public, and all callers
- Review the inpatient commitment for accuracy, completeness, and proper time frames
- Responds rapidly to appointment or inpatient admission requests through email, phone, or voicemail
- Demonstrate knowledge of mental health laws.
- Efficiently take a sizable volume of calls and disposition callers to meet their needs rapidly
- Follow outpatient scheduling or referral documentation guidelines
- Review and summarizes the patient information for admissions to a behavioral health unit and triaging patient for appropriate placement
- Demonstrate ability to utilize DSMV and to develop provisional diagnosis.
- Active participation and ongoing maintenance of quality management activities and the development of standards from problem identification
- Ability to work efficiently and independently in emergency setting.
- Demonstrate triage and assessment skills for medical necessity or appropriate outpatient clinic
- Demonstrate high standards for accurate documentation in software and within patient assessments
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or a related field with a minimum of 1 year experience in a clinical psychiatric setting
OR
- an entry level Master’s Degree
- Ability to respond calmly and effectively, using good clinical judgment to both psychiatric and medical emergencies
- Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal relations with the ability to interact professionally with all callers
- Ability to identify problems, implement resolution, reassesses situation/problem.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work under stress, with an unpredictable patient flow, in a sometimes-crowded work environment
- A personal disposition that is warm, friendly, caring, kind and hospitable towards patients, colleagues
- Exhibit openness and willingness to learn
- Flexible schedule; rotating shifts. History/track record of all above services consistently delivered with a service excellent attitude
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
