Description
UPMC Somerset is looking to add a Lab Assistant to their team of life-changers! The Lab Assistant plants/processes specimens and perform routine clerical functions in the laboratory. They also prepare samples for reference lab testing. This position will work evening hours including rotating Saturdays.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of specimen processing
- Perform routine clerical functions by maintaining accurate and complete records of test results.
- Orders and maintains adequate general supplies for the lab.
- Completely procures venipuncture specimens on outpatients and/or inpatients.
- Prepare specimens at work stations for testing, including labeling, accessioning, and aliquotting.
- As required, performs related clerical duties, and utilizes various computer functions to accurately enter demographic information into the information system(s), enters test orders, receives, cancels, charges, and credit tests, while ascertaining adequacy of patient information as well as sample identity.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of biology/chemistry gained through high school science courses.
- Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy program preferred.
- Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy preferred.
- Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
