UPMC St. Margaret is a three-time ANCC Magnet Designated hospital located in Aspinwall PA, northeast of Pittsburgh, PA. 6B is a 34 bed medical/surgical unit that provides care to adult and geriatric patients with a focus on pre and post-surgical patients. The unit provides care to a full range of general adult medical diagnoses but their primary specialties are general surgery, vascular surgery, ENT, urologic surgery, and plastic surgery.
The 6B Surgical team works incredibly hard not only to support their patients but one another. The culture of 6B is one of positivity and collaboration. The team is tight-knit and always eager to help one another to ensure their patients receive high quality care
What can you Expect as a Licensed Practical Nurse?
The LPN is prepared to function as a member of the healthcare team by exercising sound nursing judgment based on preparation, knowledge, experience in nursing and competency. The LPN participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care using focused assessment in settings where nursing takes place. An LPN shall obtain instruction and supervision if implementing new or unfamiliar nursing practices or procedures. An LPN shall follow the written, established policies and procedures of UPMC, UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines and the State Practice Act. Acts within the LPN Practice guidelines (except IVs) and within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment.
An LPN shall communicate with a licensed professional nurse and the patients’ health care team members to seek guidance when:
- The patients care needs exceed the licensed practical nursing scope of practice.
- The patients care needs surpass the LPN’s knowledge, skill, or ability.
- The patient’s condition deteriorates or there is a significant change in condition, the patient is not responding to therapy, the patient becomes unstable, or the patient needs immediate assistance.

Shifts/Hours: Our LPNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. This position will work three 12-hour rotating shifts per week. This includes weekend and holiday requirements.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- Experience in health care preferred, new LPN grads welcome!
- LTC/SNF preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
- LPN must maintain state licensure where they are practicing or in a state covered by a licensure compact agreement with the state where the facility is located.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34 with renewal
