Description
We are looking for a Research Associate WPIC who is willing to work on two different projects in the field of human sleep and neuroscience research. The first project, the Cognition and Brain Health in Retired Adults study, compares risk for Alzheimer’s disease (cognitive function, brain structure, and Alzheimer’s biomarkers) between retired night shift workers and retired day workers. The second project, the Sleep Enhancement Research Study, is investigating whether enhancing the deepest stage of sleep using acoustic stimulation (i.e., soft brief tones played during sleep) improves cognitive and emotional behavior and brain function in young adults experiencing anxiety and depression symptoms.
The Research Associate WPIC will be primarily involved in guiding participants through the protocols of both studies and ensuring quality data collection. This will include: helping with participant recruitment, helping to conduct screening to assess if participants are eligible for the study, scheduling appointments and sending appointment reminders, administering questionnaires and computer tasks to participants, keeping detailed notes and filling out data tracking forms during study visits, and data entry and organization. They will also be expected to attend lab meetings; attend data and safety monitoring meetings; complete all necessary trainings; and interface with staff performing cognitive testing, neuroimaging, blood sample collection and processing, and overnight sleep assessments.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong organizational skills, willing to learn and ask questions, able to work independently and problem solve, communicates effectively with others, compassionate and patient towards others, and comfortable working with individuals of different ages (younger and older adults) and backgrounds.
This is for a full time position (40 hours per week). The hours will typically be from 9am – 5pm Monday through Friday. Occasionally, we will require availability (approximately 3-4 days per month) late at night and early in the morning to help with study visits. Occasional late-night availability would roughly be a 3-hr window sometime between 7pm – midnight and early morning availability would roughly be a 4-hour window as early as 6am.
This position is grant funded.
