UPMC Corporate Communications is hiring a Student Worker- Science Writing Intern to join our team! This role will work Monday through Friday during daylight hours at the US Steel Tower in Downtown Pittsburgh, PA. The position may also occasionally work from home. In addition to this, the role will travel around Pittsburgh as needed to assist with photo shoots and video shoots. This Intern will work with the department for Summer 2023 and is typically a 10-12 week paid internship. The internship will be a set rate of $17/HR.
We are looking for individuals who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Communications, master’s in Science Writing or English, or a PhD Student pursuing a degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, or Public Health with a background in Communications.

Responsibilities:
- Conducting interviews and writing engaging blog posts about innovative research at UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh Schools of the Health Sciences
- Identifying and building relationships with up-and-coming experts from underrepresented backgrounds from UPMC and Pitt and creating content about trending health sciences topics featuring their expertise
- Assisting at media shoots around Pittsburgh
- Researching news outlets and reporters
Qualifications
- Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in communications with a minor STEM (preferably medicine, neuroscience, biology or chemistry) preferred
- OR Master’s student pursuing a degree in Science Writing or English with a strong background in STEM preferred
- OR PhD student pursuing a degree in Medicine, Pharmacy or Public Health with a strong background in communications preferred
- Proficiency in writing and internet research and familiarity with US television and print media
- Ability to work independently on a number of separate, simultaneous tasks
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent writing skills.
