Description
The Residential Advisor will provide direct care to sixteen male and female patients primarily diagnosed with schizophrenia. Will work alongside Nurses, Therapists, and will report to the Program Manager.
Previous Mental Health experience preferred. On-street parking is available, meals are included and the dress code is casual.
This is a 24/7 program. The schedule will vary between 12-hour shifts and 8-hour shifts. Meals are provided. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Manages crisis situations effectively using positive approaches and consistent ability to respond calmly and effectively, using good clinical judgment
- Provide self help skills training on areas such as daily living, socialization, interpersonal effectiveness, social skills, and community involvement. Provide community outreach as needed.
- Participate in implementing group therapy for residents at the LTSR acting as the lead or co-leader.
- Provides direct Care to the residents I longer term structured residence based on CSP principles, recovery and rehabilitation model of care. Demonstrate knowledge of mental health principles related to the SPMI population. This includes: serves as a role model to residents, facilitates skill generalization, and maintaining the therapeutic milieu.
- Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team, working in conjunction with ambulatory care staff, program staff, and physicians, ICM's to provide comprehensive, coordinated care. Participate in the development and implementation of treatment plan,
- Provides residents with ADL assessment. Provides self help training with ADL and creates a plan with assigned resident to target skill development. Assist with ADLs which includes hygiene and Laundry as needed.
- Maintaining the safety and security of the LTSR by making routine rounds of the entire residence to ensure safety, monitor all consumer areas and intervene in crisis situations.
- Assist in developing, planning, implementing and evaluating group programming along with other group other specialist at the LTSR
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of the client records in compliance with WPIC standards. This includes the complete and accurate documentation as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling required.
- Bachelors in other fields of study may be considered with coursework of at least 12 credits in human services and/or relevant mental health experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively and in writing required.
- Physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill residents including lifting, supporting, running toward or away from areas where problems are occurring, and pushing or pulling equipment.
- Attends 16 hours of training per year.
- May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
- Driver's License
- Act 34
