Description
Responsible to the Medical Director and the Director of Respiratory Care Services the clinical coordinator (technical consultant) is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory, including compliance with College of American Pathologist CAP checklist requirements. The technical consultant must be available to the laboratory as needed for telephone, electronic and on-site consultation. Individuals meeting the qualifications of a technical consultant may assess the competency of personnel performing moderate complexity testing
Responsibilities:

- Performs duties of clinical supervisor when assigned.
- Assumes role of staff therapist as required and as needed.
- Complies with all department and institution policies and procedures.
- Participates in the development, implementation, and review of department policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the enrollment and participation in a CAP approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered.
- Responsible for establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed
- Provides technical assistance to and coordinates the duties of, other laboratory personnel, such as RT, BSN, and CRNA to maximize staffing for smooth, efficient operation of the area.
- Plans, organizes, and performs daily clinical laboratory procedures.
- Maintains functionality of departmental equipment and maintains inventories of reagents; assumes responsibilities for the maintenance of supplies, reagents, and equipment. Oversees verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system.
- Maintains and updates laboratory policies and procedure manuals and communicate policy changes to other laboratory personnel.
- Is responsible for providing day-to-day functional supervision of moderate complexity test performance by testing personnel.
- Identifies the training needs and assures that each individual performing test receives training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.
- Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel to properly setup, calibrate, maintain, and operate and shutdown such instruments that are vital to their position.
- Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel and assures that the staff maintains their competency to perform test procedures and report test results.
- Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Assures department CAP surveys are performed appropriately and submitted on time.
Qualifications
- An individual who has a bachelor's degree in the health sciences and is a graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist.
- Proficient knowledge of all areas of respiratory therapy.
- Current Pennsylvania Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
- CPR certification required.
- Minimum 5 years clinical experience in respiratory therapy.
- Experience or interest in health care education.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
