Description
Purpose:
Perform an additional variety of skills in the GI Lab procedural rooms that assist the team, under the direction of the Physician and the Registered Nurse. Assist the nursing staff by performing specific adolescent/adult/geriatric patient care and unit order activities. The tasks will require additional training and expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Assist/be involved with Quality initiatives/Projects within the department. Project must be approved/coordinated with department head. Examples include: CPR Instructor, Educational Bulletin Board, Scope Super User, Scheduling, SGNA Advanced Program Certificate, etc.
- Maintain supply inventory, rotate stock, and restock procedural rooms as needed. Re-order supplies or report to responsible party the need to re-order items. Return unused product or reusable equipment to proper storage place.
- Consistently offers assistance to coworkers, work cooperatively and promotes effective communication. Be receptive and encourage feedback.
- Assume responsibility for own development. Attend/read relevant departmental in-service programs, actively participate in GI Lab staff meetings, participate in unit based performance improvement, perform secretarial functions as needed, and/or participate in self review as requested by department manager.
- Care for and maintain all endoscopic equipment utilized in the G.I. Laboratory. Ensure equipment is functioning properly before use. Demonstrates knowledge, operation, and troubleshooting of processors and equipment. Provides back up to Equipment Reprocessors as needed.
- Prepares the procedure room correctly with the appropriate endoscope, equipment, and instruments. Ensures equipment is functioning properly before use. Anticipates the needs of the physician and what may be needed for the case. Demonstrates competency in performance of skills.
- Attend/read relevant departmental in-service programs.
- Assist in the preparation/obtaining of specimens, proper labeling of, and logging of specimens. Deliver specimens to appropriate area as necessary.
- Include completing two continuing education programs per year.
- Skill Independence/Competence with skill sets, that would enable coverage of late shifts and/or call on the weekends where applicable.
- Mentors new and standing employeesMaintain ongoing equipment service log. Ensure reprocessing units are inspected and all supplies associated with reprocessing are within the dates recommended by the manufacturer.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new techniques.
- Assist in recording, collating, and analyzing data obtained during clinical and investigative studies.
- Care for and maintain all endoscopic equipment utilized in the G.I. Laboratory. Ensure equipment is functioning properly before use.
- Notify Clinical Coordinator or Equipment Coordinator of any damage to equipment
- Act as a point person for regulatory Issues and Inspections related to scope reprocessing.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of experience in the diagnostic rooms as well as competency in the scope reprocessing area.
- Advance skills in at least 2 areas which include: APCT, Motilty technician, EUS, HALO, Bronchoscopy, or ERCP.
- SGNA Associates Program Certificate
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Gastroenterology RN OR International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management
