Description

UPMC is searching for a full-time Informatics Nurse to support our Clinical Informatics Department! This position will mainly cover UPMC McKeesport Hospital but will flex to assist with UPMC East and West Mifflin Surgery Center as needed. Hours for this position will primarily be Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, but may need to work occasional weekends and nights to cover training and go-lives. Under the direction of the Director, Clinical and Operational Informatics (DCOI), the Informatics Nurse has the responsibility and accountability of assessing and assisting in the investigation, development, and implementation of new technology as it relates to clinical practice and serving as a liaison for end users and the Informatics division. Informatics Nurse I participates on project teams to ensure a successful, on-time go-live. He/she develops and maintains project deliverables by applying project goals. He/she gathers and communicates data to Informatics Nurse II, DCOI, or others as requested.

Responsibilities:

  • Assumes responsibility as assigned to assist with the continuous improvement projects and maintenance of the eRecord. Participates in research activities, submits abstracts for presentation at local, regional, and national conferences/professional meetings, submits articles for publications, and/or participates in community/volunteer activities. Participates upon request in system application validation.
  • Is empowered to engage appropriate health care personnel and eRecord team members as issues arise. Identifies and communicates learning needs to the appropriate manager. New or challenging skills- requests assistance and reviews policies and procedures. Participates in interdepartmental and system activities to encourage communication. Provides informatics mentorship at the unit/dept level helping to develop an interest in informatics. Forms a partnership with end users to maintain an open dialogue for continuous feedback and quality improvement. Creates a work environment to promote the flow of ideas for the improvement of the eRecord. Maintains membership on, or consultation to, committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of development, implementation, and revision of the clinical information system. Participates in Informatics Professional organization activities to enhance personal growth and cultivate relationships in the field at a regional and national level. Performs all other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
  • Conducts education programs to levels of end users in new and upgraded applications. May educate at the system or local level as directed by the Informatics nurse II or DCOI. Perform s work in a timely and productive manner and meets defined deadlines. Assists in reviewing the nursing policies to align with the eRecord technology. Takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs and provides similar feedback to co-workers
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and co, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Demonstrates an understanding of cultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthy relationships. Maintains a conscious balance between work and personal life. Models safe work hours, time management, and a healthy lifestyle.Communicates with peers and manage any safety hazards identified in the workplace.
  • Communicates by preparing and educating at all levels the various types of functionality that impact to the end users' workflow. This communication may include but is not limited to the creation of articles for publications, uLearn, or any educational venue. Demonstrates basic knowledge of system and local technology applications and the integration of these systems regarding the impact on the end user. Participates in Informatics Council, both local and system level. Assists in the preparation of agendas, handouts, documents meeting minutes. Active participant in assigned committees and work groups with communication back to the informatics team/DCOI.Collects and assembles data for evaluation of EHR projects. Show proficiency in running explorer menu reports.
  • Objectively observes and educates end users utilizing unit rounds to identify ongoing educational needs regarding clinical documentation issues, patient care challenges, and software application upgrades. Prioritizes issues and reports them accordingly. Active participant in staff workflow assessment in clinical informatics projects. Provides support to DCOI by setting meetings and establishing groups for resolution of EHR assessment. Functions as an internal consultant, resource person, and educator to all levels of personnel by the objectives of the informatics department. Supports change initiatives at the local and system level as directed by the Informatics Nurse II or DCOI.

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing for registered nurses
  • Minimum of 3 years acute care nursing experience required
  • BSN required


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certification required within 3 years of informatics employment (ANCC Nursing Informatics or CPHIMS) Employees practicing in Pennsylvania: Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse license or eligible for State Board Licensure. Employees practicing in Maryland: Current Maryland RN License required.
