UPMC Corporate Human Resources is hiring a Benefits Compliance Specialist to join our team!
The Benefits Compliance Specialist will report to the Manager, Retirement Plans and Benefit Compliance as part of the Employee Benefits team. This fast-paced team is looking for a candidate with demonstrated understanding of benefits administration and compliance and the current regulatory standards. Perform technical and specialized work involved in the support and administration of compliant retirement, health and welfare benefits. Interpret and ensure compliance with laws, contractual arrangements and corporate policy. Take part in ad hoc projects in support of overall department goals.
This role has flexible work arrangements, which include a hybrid work setting or the opportunity to be fully remote! The position will work Monday through Friday during typical business hours with flexible start times.

Responsibilities:
- Support Benefits Managers and advise internal stakeholders on a range of legal, regulatory and compliance questions and concerns related to UPMC's benefit plans.
- Provide primary support for compliance activities, including regulatory filings and related communications. Provide support related to the documentation of retirement and benefit plans (i.e. Summary Plan Descriptions, plan documents, as well as required participant communications review and distribution.
- Represent the Benefits Department on cross functional teams, including projects related to the integration of new entities. Take part in major projects in the benefits area to redesign current programs, processes, and recommendations of new programs. Make revisions to programs currently being used to ensure program compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the administration, coordination with Employee Service Center (ESC), HRIS, external vendors, etc. as needed for specific benefit programs as assigned. This can include Affordable Care Act reporting, Summary Plan Description updates, and annual compliance communications.
- Interface with external brokers and vendors and ERISA counsel on the administration and compliance of UPMC's benefit plans. Primary support for compliance activities including regulatory filings, and related communications. Oversee and administer ERISA reporting requirements for UPMC benefit programs, including Form 5500 and/or other compliance forms and matters, such as, the administration of domestic relations orders and annual nondiscrimination testing.
- Create, review, and update procedural documents and process guides, internal and external. Research and interpret plan provisions in response to participant escalations. Provide general support to the benefits team as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required.
- Three years of retirement or benefits experience required.
- Knowledge of laws pertaining to employee health & welfare and retirement benefits, ERISA, COBRA, IRS Code, Dept. of Labor and PPACA required.
- Ability to work independently.
- Project management and project planning skills.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
