UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Research Assistant – Basic Science to support the Wet Labs Experiments in Molecular Genomics Department!
This position will work full time regular shifts. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.
This position is grant funded.
The Research Assistant will be responsible for performing experiments as outlined in the protocol including solution and sample preparation, conducting experiment, operating analytical instrument, record keeping, data analysis and report generation.
Research at the Molecular Genomics lab is focused on understanding the biology and utility of cell-free nucleic acids present in human fluid reservoirs such as plasma, stool and cerebrospinal fluid. This work is motivated by the need to develop methods for the non-invasive detection and phenotyping of silently progressing human disease. To achieve these goals, the lab combines high-throughput methods in translational genomics with novel computational approaches.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, label, store and dispose of reagents, and calibrates equipment for research projects.
- Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function.
- Perform approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting of results.
- Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
- Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.

- Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or other basic science.
