Job Description/Summary/Objectives: UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside seeks Respiratory Therapists, CRT to provide respiratory therapy services and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system, under the general direction of a physician and by prescription. Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication dosages. Determine most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician's orders. Evaluate the appropriateness of medical orders. Interpret clinical data to optimize patient clinical objectives. Set up and operate devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients. Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy. Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment functions safely and efficiently. Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes. Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist patient in performing breathing exercises. Perform pulmonary function tests to be used by physician in diagnosis of case. Consult with physician in the event of adverse reactions. Maintain patient charts that contain pertinent identification and therapy information. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel. Assist to transport mechanically ventilated patients. Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care from a CoARC-accredited program, or equivalent.
- Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC.)
- Must hold a valid PA Respiratory Therapist license or eligibility, and BLS or CPR.
