UPMC is looking for a Systems Engineer Associate to join their team. This position will be primarily REMOTE with only a few instances where you will need to work on-site.

Under the direction of management and more senior members of the team, the System Engineer- Associate on the Application Engineering team is responsible for providing platform management and dev ops support for those platforms. They will be handling application upgrades and patching, automation of operational tasks, end user support and troubleshooting, Continuous Integration development/support and ability to management multiple projects at a time.

Responsibilities:
- Core technology concepts - Responsible for showing a basic understanding of designated technologies and their use. Demonstrates the initiative to learn internal processes and procedures.
- Project Management - Complete basic project-related tasks and tasks delegated by more senior members of the team. Responsible for time tracking and updating documentation.
- Maintenance/Upgrades - Follow documented procedures for maintenance and upgrades. Responsible for assisting with Disaster Recovery Plan.
- End user support - Complete basic documented tasks related to end user support.
- Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day to day work and projects.
- Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Ability to resolve basic issues or offer input on issue resolution.
- Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
- Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary.

- Typically has familiarity with complex systems environments through education or practical experience.
- Ability to perform basic/standard IT procedures and protocols.
- This position may be required to maintain a 24/7 off hours support as part of a rotation within the team.
- The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
- Experience with Linux (RHEL) and/or Windows Server Operating systems preferred
- Experience with scripting experience preferred (PowerShell, Bash, Python…)
- Understanding of System and Application management and support concepts preferred
- Understanding of basic network connectivity preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Good technical foundations and willing to learn/work in a fast-paced worked environment.
- Strong communication skills and able to work independently and within a project teams.
- Desire and willingness to learn from instruction and self-paced modules.
- Experience with Windows Server and/or Red Hat Enterprise operating system concepts.
- Knowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Linux scripting, Python, and others).
- Knowledge of database technologies preferred but not required (SQL Server, Oracle, PostGresSQL)
- Knowledge/understanding of the Agile methodologies.
