UPMC Williamsport is seeking a Pulmonary Wellness Instructor on an as-needed basis! This role will work between 16 and 24 hours per month. No weekends or holidays are required.
Purpose:
Develops, implements, and monitors a pulmonary wellness program for inpatients and outpatients, including program marketing and patient and family education. Provides Pulmonary Wellness services.
Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
- Develops a treatment plan in collaboration with, and under the direction of, a physician.
- Develops and maintains community contacts that support both a pulmonary wellness model and the goals and objectives of the UPMC Susquehanna.
- Commit to high-quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors, or adverse events. Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Understand that patient safety is everyone's responsibility. Assume responsibility for personal education and performance related to patient safety; report unsafe conditions or events immediately; speak up in a non-confrontational and educational manner when seeing a safety breech; develop or participate in a project or action plan to reduce risk or mitigate harm for patients, as appropriate.
- Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
- Develops and maintains all necessary orders and protocols in collaboration with Lead Therapists and the Medical Director for the successful operation of the program from both a clinical and financial base.
- Orients and evaluates patients in collaboration with the physician.
- Maintain necessary state licensure for the position.
- Provides a systematic educational program for patients that addresses issues of exercise, risk factor modification, diet, and counseling.
- Develops and maintains all documentation required for the successful operation of the program including statistics, policies and procedures, and operation and financial records.
Qualifications
Graduate of an American Medical Association accredited Respiratory Therapy training program. Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy OR Applied Science required (Bachelor's preferred) OR grandfathered through the registry as a Registered Respiratory Therapist OR Registered Nurse OR Licensed Practical Nurse OR Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP or ASEP credentialed) Two years of experience in pulmonary rehab preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Appropriate corresponding License or certificate, (e.g., Registered Respiratory Therapist, Certified Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse)
- ACSM Health Fitness Specialist Certification OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Registered Nurse (RN) OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
