UPMC Urology of Central PA is looking to add an outpatient RN Nurse Coordinator I to their office. The RN Nurse Coordinator I will join a busy Urology office and be a clinical leader for the Medical Assistants, LPNs, RNs, and phlebotomists. The RN Nurse Coordinator I will have administrative duties, but also required to be visible in the back office and help medical assistants, LPNs, and RNs as needed with any procedures, teaching, education, etc. 3 years of previous nursing experience is required for this role.
HOURS: Monday-Friday 7:30am-5pm. Flexible start/stop times between these office hours. NO WEEKENDS. NO HOLIDAYS. NO ON-CALL.
Responsibilities:
- Available and visible to be a resource for all clinical staff, know logistics of office, and clinical knowledge
- Supervise clinical staff (MAs, LPNs, RNs, phlebotomists)
- Create schedule for medical assistants, nurses, and triage line.
- Required to learn and at times help with urology procedures that are done in office (MAs do on a regular basis) to ensure you can teach new staff, help MAs as needed, educate patients on procedures, cover for vacations or illness, etc.
- Required to learn chemotherapy installation within the bladder.
- Shadow providers to learn Urology specialty (unless previous Urology experience)
- May serve as a preceptor for newly acquired staff.
- Responsible for coordination of staff training and educational activities. Supports the development of students, new staff and colleagues
- Functions as the senior nursing level assisting in the professional development and maturity of new staff members and ancillary support.
- Creates an environment of open dialogue, inquiry and continuous development by asking for feedback and improving practice.
- Demonstrates accountability for professional development that improves the quality of professional practice and the quality of patient care.
- Actively participates in practice-based shared governance, goal setting and supports the change and transition process to improve quality of care and the practice environment.
- Serves as a highly engaged and full partner on the care team and responds willingly to care team member needs for assistance and partnership.
- Formulates goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
- Triages patient situations and coordinates care with physician.
- Assist physician with all aspects of patient care including assessment, evaluation and education.
- Assists the departmental manager (Practice Coordinator or Practice Manager) in patient care planning, operations and innovations.
- Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
- Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
- Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
- Communication skills that designate the Professional Nurse Coordinator as the voice/advocate for the patient.
- Provides detailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to effectively guide them through the episode of care both in the office setting and via phone/written communication when at home.
- Serves as the primary nursing liaison for the development of a total care plan to patient and family.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years nursing experience required
- BSN preferred, but not required.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
CPR Certification, UPMC approved national certification preferred. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 34 with renewal
