Are you an experienced critical care Registered Nurse looking for the next step in your career? If so, this opportunity may be for you! UPMC Altoona is seeking a part time Clinical Educator to support education of our nursing staff! This position will work with our critical care areas.
The Clinical Educator is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of clinical learning needs and appropriate support for personnel. Responsible for the development and teaching of education programs specific to the assigned clinical area. Plans specific programs in consultation and cooperation with Department Directors, and appropriate Medical Staff committees.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains all clinical competencies described in the RN addendums including trauma competencies when applicable
- Serves as a clinical resource person for nursing personnel to improve standards of nursing practice.
- Keeps own supervisor informed of department activities, plans, and developments through both oral and written reports. Seeks assistance from own supervisor, as necessary, in solving departmental problems.
- Develops and maintains current materials and handouts for education and orientation.
- Assists with planning continuing education programs.
- Provides input as requested for budget planning and operates own program in a cost-effective manner.
- Participates in the planning and teaching of courses, continuing education programs, and inservices for personnel.
- Participates in continuing education and professional association activities for our professional growth.
- Plans the Annual Competency Fair.
- Complies with established occupational exposure policies.
- Assists with orientation/education of staff when necessary or required by clinical managers.
- Prepares written and visual educational materials as needed.
- Recruits competent staff to present lectures for appropriate classes.
- Provides for review and/or revision and evaluation of appropriate programs and courses.
- Develops accurate lesson plans for all programs which include objectives, topic content, methods, and evaluations.
- Carries out other related activities as required by the Hospital to ensure quality patient care.
- Participates in the planning and presentation of clinical orientation programs for all personnel.
Qualifications
Education and Formal Training Required:
- Must hold a valid registration as a nurse in the State of Pennsylvania
- Bachelor of science degree in nursing required, masters of nursing or masters of science with a major in nursing preferred.
- Must be willing to attain a masters degree within six years if not at the time of hire.
- Specialty Certification required or achieved within six months of hire date.
Experience Required:
- A minimum of five years current clinical experience commensurate with the assigned clinical area.
Specific Abilities:
- Demonstrates ability to teach and train others.
- A thorough familiarity with current nursing procedures, methods, and practices.
- A high degree of initiative, patience, and judgment to develop, revise, and adapt orientation and inservice programs to attain desired objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious relations with medical staff and other Hospital personnel.
- Written and verbal skills to develop and present educational sessions and required reports.
- Ability to apply adult learning principles to educational sessions.
- ACLS/BLS, PALS/Neonatal Instructor designation within six month of hire as appropriate.
- Ability to use Microsoft Work, Power Point, and Excel.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor OR National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification
- Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI)
- Neonatal Advanced Life Support OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor (PALSI)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
