UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Full-time Clinical Engineering General I to join our Maintenance & Facilities team!
The Clinical Engineering Generalist I will perform repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on patient related medical devices (patient beds, wheelchairs, tvs, etc) used throughout UPMC, hospital affiliates, and institutions contracting for services with BioTronics Inc. Work under direct supervision and select from a variety of established procedures to establish assigned tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in continuing education.
- Routinely perform preventive maintenance, inspection and repair of Low Priority type medical equipment.
- Understand and implement specific regulatory requirements.
- With direct supervision, provide consultation to administration, nursing, and medical staff regarding operational, training, application and technological advancements of medical instrumentation.
- Priority Class 'Low' Equipment includes but is not limited to: Lab equipment, physical therapy equipment, saws, dental equipment, compressors, and general patient care equipment, arthroscopy instruments, standard scissors, forceps, retractors, elevators, ortho curettes, osteotomes, chisels, bone cutters, printer and PC peripherals.
- Maintain records of all work activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System and Kronos.
- Understand and operate all standard test equipment.
- With direct supervision, occasionally performs preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs of medium priority type medical equipment.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Biomedical/Electrical/Computer/ IT Information Technology, BMET Apprenticeship Certification or Journeyman papers (if applicable) is required.
- Equivalent military experience and/or equivalent hospital or manufacturers service experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
- 0-2 years of hospital or manufacturers service experience and/or demonstrates equivalent proficiencies.
- General knowledge of electronics, digital circuitry operations and Information Technology, or surgical instrumentation (as applicable).
- General knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, physics, chemistry, optics, pneumatics, hydraulics, hospital structure and regulatory requirements (as applicable).
- General Computer skills as required to operate a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
- May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with the medications is allowed.
