UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

The Intake Process Specialist 1 is responsible for performing tasks associated with incoming claim forms, correspondence, and other documents of a more complex nature, such as requiring additional research, sensitive/high profile correspondence, or returned mail. Provides basic administrative support for the entirety of the Insurance Services Division Blueprint.



  • Effectively prioritize and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Provide timely, thorough, and accurate outcomes that meet expected deadlines.
  • Coordinate and track all documents utilized by and/or for the department including mail.
  • Enter and maintain documents in physical and/or digital files.
  • Respond to inquiries and release authorized information as directed.
  • Manage, track, and organize all incoming mail.
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with other staff, supervisors, managers, and director.
  • Operates as a team player contributing to a positive work environment.



  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently in a team setting.
  • Possess basic analytical skills necessary to evaluate Stakeholder inquiries.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Proficiency in typing required.
  • Physical effort and demands and/or working conditions.
  • Ability to lift boxes and arrange materials. Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred. Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced production environment and contribute to a positive work culture.
