UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Do you want a position where professional development is valued? The Nurse-Family Partnership team has an opening for a full-time Registered Nurse (RN). An opening on this team is rare. The team is supportive, flexible with scheduling. The RN must be able to work a flexible schedule including one evening/week until 6-7pm if your client(s) would need a later appointment. A successful nurse will be someone who believes in the program vision, likes autonomy in their work, but also has accountability. The RN will be paid for gas mileage in addition to their annual salary. 

In the nurse-family partnership, the RN will provide service to community serving families with incomes 235% or less of poverty guidelines. The nurse can spend quality time with families to partner with them in making positive life changes.

HOURS: Typically 8am-5pm, but the RN must be able to work a flexible schedule including one evening/week until 6-7pm if your client(s) would need a later appointment.


  • Day requires online education at first as the nurse is building their caseload 
  • Typical day consists of 3 or 4 scheduled home visits with visit preparation, transportation to and from the patient home, and documentation  
  • Position requires travel to various locations to complete home visits to women and their families eligible for NFP services. While most visits take place in patient homes, telehealth is also part of our model in cases where the home visit can’t occur.  
  • Carries a caseload of up to 25 clients. 
  • Attend 2 hour team meeting every Wednesday 9am-11am. Two of these team meetings are case conferences where nurses are supported by their peers and supervisors. Another of these team meetings provides education. 
  • Accurately assesses own learning needs and develops strategies to meet them.Stays informed of current health care developments to provide safe, quality, nurse home visiting services. 
  • Maintains clear, effective, open, honest communication with both internal and external customers and colleagues.  
  • Schedules joint home visits with NFP Nurse Supervisor every four months. 
  • Attend and participate in weekly case conferences and team meetings. 
  • Maintain quality, timely and appropriate comprehensive documentation both written and data entry into Efforts To Outcomes (ETO) software and Agency electronic health record. 
  • Formulates nursing diagnosis based on nursing assessment and client goals. Evaluates client progress toward stated goals and NFP outcomes. 
  • Manage and prioritize own caseload for safe, effective care according to acuity/needs of clients.  
  • Maintain productivity standards established for the program. 
  • Utilize nursing expertise and professional judgement to inform appropriate healthcare provider of any pertinent change in condition of client. 
  • Actively engages in professional development to meet all NFP Nurse Home Visitor competency requirements. 
  • Meet with NFP Nurse Supervisor weekly for clinical supervision. Utilizes reflective practice in supervisory sessions. 
  • Completes all required Agency/NFP Initial and Continued Education/Training Sessions. Maintains Agency-specific and NFP clinical competencies. 
  • Attends, participates and maintains certification in Dyadic Assessment of Naturalistic Caregiver Experience Training (DANCE).Develops therapeutic relationships, utilizes concepts of reflection and motivational interviewing with women and their families in a home visiting environment. 


  • BSN required 
  • 2 years' experience in maternal/child health, public health, home visiting, mental/behavioral nursing, or relevant experience. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered, certified or licensed as required by state law for the profession. 
  • NFP RNs typically hold a BSN. ASN prepared RNs are only considered if they have received special dispensation by authority of the Nurse-Family Partnership National Service Office on recommendation of the State Nurse Family Partnership Consultant. 
  • NFP approved ASN prepared RNs must agree to successfully completing an accredited BSN program and receive a BSN degree within three (3) years of hire. 

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) 
  • Registered Nurse (RN) 
  • Act 33 with renewal 
  • Act 34 with renewal 
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
