Description
UPMC Cole is hiring for a Safety Sitter in their Emergency Room. This position is a casual position and requires flexible hours over all shifts.
Purpose:
The Safety Sitter, under the direction of a Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, Unit Coordinator and/or Staff Nurse,is responsible for providing direct patient observation for safety. The Safety Sitter performs a variety of tasksto support the ongoing care and safety of hospital patients.
Responsibilities:
- Assists and shows good judgment in analyzing problems and taking appropriate action in both routine andemergency situations.
- Communicates effectively and appropriately. Uses good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as wellas the best way to get that accomplished. Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone forthe situation and audience. Listens to others and allows them to make their point.
- Demonstrates the essential skills related to the use of all equipment connected to job responsibilities. Displaysan appropriate level of concern for various safety factors when using equipment. Operates highly complexequipment in a highly efficient manner to ensure high-quality results. Maintains equipment for properly bycleaning daily and noting any system problems to alert department manager .
- Handles sensitive or difficult issues with diplomacy and confidence. Remains clearheaded and focused andinspires others to do the same. Remains objective in the face of strong emotions. Can acknowledge strongemotions without being unduly influenced by their intensity.
- Practices within scope of licensure, certification, and/or job description. Takes personal responsibility forpatient care and safety. Complies with National Patient Safety Goals and other regulatory standards. Includessafety assessments and planning for all activities and services being provided. Speaks up, and encouragespatients and family members to do likewise, if safety is a concern. Promptly reports safety risks and takesappropriate action to reduce these risks.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GEDBLS-Basic Life Support Certification required, but will provide training if necessaryPrevious experience working with behavioral health patients is preferred.Aggression management, physical comfort and monitoring safety
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
