Description
The Regulation of Emotion in ASD Adults Children and Teens (REAACT) Lab (REAACT | University of Pittsburgh) in the Center of Excellence for Autism Research (CeFAR) is seeking a full-time Research Specialist to assist with a new research program focused on mental health and suicide risk in autistic adults. The program will enroll both autistic and non-autistic adults to participate in three inter-related studies. The Research Specialist’s primary focus will be on a new study of mental health and suicidality in autistic adults (NIH Autism Center of Excellence Grant P50 MH130957), though they may be asked to support other projects within the lab as needed. The primary role will be directly working with autistic adult participants to collect score and enter assessments and orient them to the study components.
This position is grant funded.
Responsibilities:
- Administer and score a variety of assessments including but not limited to IQ, autism diagnostic assessments, psychiatric interviews, and online questionnaires.
- Guide participants through all study procedures from start to finish – collect screen, obtain informed consent, administer & track progress through research tasks, disburse payment.
- Orient participants to all aspects of the study including interviews/assessments, self-report questionnaires, ambulatory physiology & EMA, and fMRI.
- Escort participants to imaging scan.
- Document and follow study protocol and procedures.
- Enter study data into a secure database & perform data audit.
- Assist with literature searches and pulling data when needed.
- Participate in weekly supervision with the study coordinator(s)
- Attend and take notes during study team meetings.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision once trained.
- Perform other duties as related to the research project as requested by the Principal Investigators, coordinator, and/or supervisors.
- May assist in other studies with additional duties as new grants are funded.
- Must be able to juggle and prioritize tasks and keep open communication with the Principal Investigator and supervisors to ensure timely completion of all duties.
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
- Available to work occasional evenings and/or weekends.
- Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
- Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology or related research field.
- Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
- Familiarity with computers and common software packages required, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, OneNote) preferred.
- Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
- Experience with autism strongly preferred.
- Must have excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to organize information.
- Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Driver’s license
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 34 with renewal
