UPMC is currently hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager Assistant to support our Residential Department located at UPMC Chautauqua! 

This position works to assist the Nurse Clinical Manager in managing the unit both clinically and in aspects of management.


  • Coordinates day-to-day unit activities through completing nurse-in-charge functions. Participates in the selection of nursing staff. Reviews and approves time sheets and assures that payment for hours worked is administered in accordance with WPIC guidelines and contractual agreements where applicable. Provides supervision to the nursing staff regarding performance of clinical duties and participation in staff development. Completes annual performance appraisals for staff nurses as assigned. Coordinates special administrative projects as requested. Participates in institutional committees/UPMC as assigned. Makes patient care assignments such as primary nurse or charge nurse responsibilities for members of the nursing staff based on competency level and patient acuity. Participates in disciplinary actions as necessary in collaboration with the Nurse Clinical Manager. Assists the Nurse Clinical Manager in the development of the bi-weekly work schedule.
  • Participates in staff development and educational programs offered by the institute based upon learning plan. Monitors peer review process of nursing staff. Demonstrates intermediate knowledge and understanding of mental health principles, psychopathology and physiology related to the patients/families in their nursing care. Demonstrates intermediate knowledge and understanding of management principles. Demonstrates the ability to conduct nursing staff interviews and performance appraisals. Demonstrates the ability to interact effectively with nursing leadership, nursing staff, and medical and ancillary staff. Identifies both clinical and non-clinical needs or problems affecting nursing services and takes necessary actions to resolve them through self-initiation. Demonstrates a systems perspective in directing activities related to nursing services
  • Identifies learning needs of assigned staff and documents plans for meeting those needs. Collaborates with the Nurse Clinical Manager and Clinical Care Coordinator in planning and instructing unit specific inservice orientation activities and remedial learning interventions. Participates in the collection and dissemination of research information. Participates in research activities pertinent to the unit program.
  • Adheres to the ANA Standards for Nursing, the ANA Professional Code for Nurses, the WPIC Standards of Practice, Care and Performance, the Nursing Policies and Procedures, the Clinical Service Manual Policies and Procedures, and Nurse Practice Act. Maintains annual certification in CPR, OSHA, Crisis Prevention, MERT/Crash Cart Review, Equipment Competency, and mandatory SDU's and core curriculum requirements. Maintains appropriate dress and grooming for the position as determined by the supervisor. Must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running toward or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment, such as wheelchairs, stretchers and beds. Attends a minimum of two unit staff/nurse meetings per year. Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Integrates the subtle distinctions in levels of nursing care required into the administrative assessment process. Role models refined patient assessment skills for nurses. Formulates a comprehensive plan of care based on advanced assessment skills for teaching nurses. Demonstrates effective use of patient acuity determination through delivery of nursing care for an individual patient. Demonstrates effective patient care delivery through regularly role modeling interactions with patients. Initiates group programs according to patient needs. Ascertains that members of the nursing staff are knowledgeable regarding the Clinical Standards of Practice, Care and Performance as defined by Office of Nursing Administration staff. Participates with the Nurse Clinical Manager in the adaptation of milieu programs.



Associate's degree or BSN in Nursing. Previous management experience preferred. 1 year nursing experience preferred in psychiatry.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
