Description
UPMC is Hiring a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for the State College office. This position is part-time hours between 8:00am-4:00 pm. This position gives basic breastfeeding information and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in Agency committees as requested.
- Promotes breastfeeding with pregnant women and gives basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding.
- Receives a caseload of WIC clients and makes routine periodic contacts with all clients assigned.
- Works to achieve and maintain quality and customer satisfaction in delivery of services to internal/external customers.
- Is available beyond 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM working hours to new mothers who are having breastfeeding problems.
- Promote personal, co-worker, customer, and visitor safety during work duties.
- She also helps mothers prevent and handle common breastfeeding concerns.
- Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with WIC clients.
- Maintain and protect customer, staff, and Agency confidentiality.
- Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers at the WIC clinic or by telephone contacts at scheduled intervals.
- Demonstrates support of Agency mission and philosophy in delivery of services.
- Attends breastfeeding training classes to become a peer counselor.
Qualifications
- Has breastfed at least one baby for at least 6 months (does not have to be currently breastfeeding).
- Demonstrates communication skills and ability to utilize counseling techniques.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm about breastfeeding and desires to help other mothers.
- Demonstrate ability to perform computer skills in specialized computer application (s) with Excel and other department software.
- Access to transportation in the Agency service area with valid Pennsylvania driver's license and auto liability insurance.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
- OAPSA
