UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is hiring a limited, casual Office Assistant to support our Moon Township & Beaver community medical oncology offices on an as-needed basis. The position is a Monday-Friday daylight, flexible schedule. Perks of this position include no holidays or weekends & free onsite parking!
In this role, you will be responsible for various front-office duties, including assisting customers in person and on the phone, providing information, and communicating with various departments. This position will obtain and enter complete demographic and insurance information and will coordinate with other office personnel to aid in scanning documents and chart preparation.
Responsibilities:
- Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system.
- Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule the patient's appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers.
- Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform the appropriate department/person of the person's arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
- Maintain clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials.
- Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
- Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages, and provide information.
- Maintain and update current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.
- Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use a computer system to generate the information necessary for billing.
- Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing.
- Complies with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- 1 year work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Word processing and computer experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 34
