Description
The incumbent shall assist the Director, Rehab Services in maintaining responsibility for the day to day organization and administration of a patient care center, contractual service, or management services as may be developed by the corporation and shall be responsible to the Director, Rehab Services and/or POD Director. Additionally the incumbent provides therapy evaluation and treatment utilizing advanced clinical skills as dictated by the needs of the facility. Provides regular, direct clinical supervision to staff level therapists.
Responsibilities:
- Schedules patients to achieve and maintain a level of productivity which meets or exceeds the standard established for the facility by the organization while ensuring delivery of quality patient care.
- Participates in program development. Serves on organizational committees as an active and contributing member as requested. Work with respective department heads and/or key department personnel to achieve compliance with hospital policies and procedures, consistent with the mission, vision, and strategic initiatives of the hospital, making appropriate recommendations to Executive Leadership as appropriate.
- Serve as a project manager/facilitator for strategic initiatives and programs, as may be undertaken to enable the organization to meet defined goals and objectives.
- Actively participates in the design and implementation of orientation/mentorship and staff development of new and future staff members within their respective area of responsibility. Participates in the organization's clinical education program by providing clinical supervision of students completing internships from various universities as requested.
- Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and in-service education programs.
- Assists the Facility Director in the supervision of the daily operations of patient care services in their respective area of responsibility. This may include; addressing daily staffing needs, developing staffing schedules, review and approval of time off requests, participating in the interviewing/selection process for their respective area of responsibility.
- Participates in the process of capital and operating budget preparation for their respective facilities. Monitors monthly budget variances and provides analysis and reports for variances. Implement budget decisions for areas of responsibility and monitors compliance with budgetary objectives.
- Actively designs, implements or delegates the orientation/mentorship and staff development of new and future staff members within their respective facility. Monitors staff and identifies areas of professional growth.
- Provides verbal and/or written home instructions to patient and/or family members when applicable.
- Maintains professional license/registration through steady pursuit and participation in appropriate continuing education and professional development opportunities to satisfy requirements for licensure/registration renewal.
- Maintains written documentation for all PT, OT and/or SLP services rendered including documentation of initial assessment, follow-up visits, and discharge summary consistent with department standards. Co-signs physical therapist assistant documentation biweekly.
- May serves as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students as well as residents and fellows in a specialty area of physical therapy.
- Communicates patient's status to the referring physician and other health care team members.
- Serves as an educational resource for management of patients with a variety of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular complaints for junior physical therapy staff members. Promotes ongoing staff development through in-services and/or individualized instruction and support.
- Oversees the daily operations of patient care services in their respective facility. This may include; addressing daily staffing needs, developing staffing schedules, review and approval of time off requests, and participating in the interviewing/selection process for their respective facility.
- Appropriately requests and actively reports objective feedback to the Facility Director regarding department performance and emergency situations. Actively supports and implements the organization directives of the management team.
- Rotates through selected treatment areas when necessary to facilitate organizational needs.
- Leads the implementation of programs and activities, to achieve improvement in organizational performance related to clinical, service, and financial outcomes.
- Performs PT, OT and/or SLP assessments, reassessment and treatment and supervises PT and/or OT assistants in the treatment of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients referred by a physician to the clinic. Develops plan of care including goals and treatment plan in accordance with physician referral, nature of injury/illness and results of PT, OT and/or SLP assessment. Modifies or adjusts plan of care based on patient's response to treatment and/or changes in patient's status. Works PTAs and COTAs to adjust patient programs as patient status changes.
- Completes necessary charge and statistical information to accurately reflect the service rendered to the patient.
- Completes performance evaluations of direct reports as requested in a thorough and timely manner. Assists the Facility Director in the disciplinary process as appropriate. Delegates performance reviews to Senior Staff appropriately. Conduct continuing education, competency assessments, performance evaluations, counsels employees and administers disciplinary actions as required.
- Serves as Facility Director or program coordinator in the absence of the incumbent. Act as the administrative representative on behalf of UPMC CRS and Respective Hospital on both internal and external committees, affiliated boards, and civic organizations.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited program within respective discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in a specialty area preferred.
- Previous clinical teaching experience preferred.
- Marketing experience and ability preferred.
- Six months experience with Centers for Rehab Services preferred.
- Two or more years supervisory/management experience in a health care setting preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Occupational Therapist (OT) OR Physical Therapist (PT)
