Description
A Patient Support Assistant provides basic patient care under the direction of a professional nurse. PSA's maintain a safe, clean and therapeutic patient care environment for patients and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to the organization's Patient Safety Plan, goals, and fulfills Patient Safety objectives.
- Adhere to the national patient safety goals by planning, directing, and monitoring implementation aspects related to those goals.
- Adhere to reporting elements and requirements set forth by all regulatory agencies for patient safety.
- Adhere to the Patient safety educational aspects.
- Participate as a Patient Care Sitter as needed.
- Provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patient and the family.
- Report unsafe conditions to the professional nurse.
- Provide basic personal hygiene and assistance in activities of daily living such as feeding, dressing, ambulating and elimination.
- Transfer and transport patients in a safe, timely and courteous manner.
- Monitor the patient's status as related to physical safety and report observations to the professional nurse.
- Interact with patients, family members, visitors, other staff members and community representatives in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Attend to the needs of guests.
Qualifications
- Required level of education: Current freshman or sophomore student in a Nursing Program.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
