Full-Time Manager, Pharmacy Services

Description

UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley, located in Farrell, PA. is hiring a Pharmacy Manager who will direct the design and implementation of pharmacy services to support the provision of pharmaceutical care in an efficient and effective manner. Integrate the philosophies and techniques of quality improvement. Ensure that services are provided in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Assist in the recruitment and hiring of staff. Mentor and provide leadership for the staff. Schedule staff to cover hours of operations and on call schedule. Monitor the budget for areas of responsibility (drug margin and staffing) to ensure cost effective services. Participate in and support various inter and intra department committees to promote the role of pharmacy in delivery of optimum patient care. Participate in educational and research initiatives in line with the mission of the organization.

This regular full-time role will work primarily daylight hours Monday through Friday.  Occasional travel to UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon-Greenville would be required as needed. This position will require you to work every 4th weekend and it's possible you would work holidays.

Purpose:
Assist the Director in organizing and supervising the Pharmacy Services as prescribed by state and federal law, JCAHO, AOA, State Board of Pharmacy and the System policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain contracts for procurement of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a system for procurement, storage, and inventory control of pharmaceuticals.
  • Integrate department's services with the hospital's primary functions.
  • Assist in the implementation of administrative directives to staff.
  • Perform monthly floor stock medication inspections. Maintain crash carts.
  • Assist with the development of departmental procedures.
  • Coordinate and integrate services within department and other departments.
  • Assist with the procurement, storage and inventory control of pharmaceuticals.
  • Determine the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide patient care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners.
  • Maintain appropriate quality control programs
  • Perform professional judgments concerning the dispensing of medications including therapeutic appropriateness, drug inter-actions, dosage calculations and overdose prevention.
  • Maintain a patient profile system to monitor patient's drug therapy for safety and efficacy.
  • Recommend a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.
  • Recommend space and other resources needed by the department.
  • Make professional judgments concerning the dispensing of medications including drug interaction, dosage calculations and over-dose prevention.
  • Participate in orientation of new staff.
  • Participate in selecting outside sources for needed services
  • Maintain distribution of medication according to established policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation and evaluations of patient care with the patient and other significant other.
  • Assist with the organization and direction of the daily activities of the Pharmacy Services.
  • Maintain distribution of medication according to established schedule and daily activities.
  • Assist with compiling of statistical data for evaluation of productivity.
  • Promote the hospital's image and maintain a positive and helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community to enhance the hospital's reputation as a health care center.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation and management of the unit.
  • Continually assess and improve department performance.
  • Perform all aspects of the Pharmacy quality improvement program including collection and tabulation of data, maintenance of monitors and formulation of quarterly analysis reports.
  • Implement and maintain an IV admixture program that ensures accuracy, sterility andtherapeutic appropriateness of all IV admixtures and other sterile products.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support theprovision of services.
  • Assist with after-hours coverage for provided services.
  • Promote growth of employees through coaching, counseling and training. Assist the Director with the annual and introductory performance
  • Maintain and update the pharmacy computer system.
  • Supervise monthly floor stock medication inspections performed by staff.
  • Provide clinical drug information to physicians and nursing staff.
  • Provide for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all persons in thedepartment.
  • Maintain statistical data through workload management for evaluation of productivity.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for containment of hospital costs through implementation of the formulary control process.
  • Willingly accept shift rotations including weekends and holidays, according to hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and independent judgement recognizing priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.

 

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.3-5 years of hospital pharmacy experience or satisfactory completion of an approved hospital pharmacy residency program required.Demonstrate dependability, reliability, and independent judgement recognizing priorities to accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Employee must obtain required CPR/ACLS/PALS/NRP certifications within 1 year of hire/transfer
