Description

UPMC Corporate Legal is hiring a Senior Insurance Analyst to join our team at the US Steel Building in downtown Pittsburgh.  This position will work Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.  This opportunity will have a hybrid work setting with two days in the office.  

Under the general direction of the Director, Corporate & Captive Insurance, the Senior Insurance Analyst (SIA) will be responsible for managing various components of UPMC's Corporate Insurance Program, as well as UPMC's International & SBI stand-alone insurance programs. This will involve coordinating and administering all day to day aspects of these programs as well as coordinating all respective renewals, which includes but is not limited to, commercial Property Insurance, including Boiler & Machinery, Business Interruption, General/Excess Liability, Directors & Officers, Managed Care Errors & Omissions, Crime, Fiduciary, Automobile (Fleet Vehicles), Travel Accident, Volunteers, etc . This position will work directly with internal and external personnel in compiling, analyzing and reviewing all underwriting information, as well as respective loss history, to ensure that UPMC, including all subsidiaries/affiliates, are adequately insured and UPMC has obtained the broadest coverage available at the lowest possible premium in the commercial market.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with UPMC Legal, Purchasing, Corporate Real Estate and all other UPMC dept's regarding all contracts and/or agreements to ensure that insurance and indemnification language is correct and appropriate.
  • Coordinate all physical plant surveys of UPMC Hospitals and all off-site locations to determine the insurance exposures/concerns throughout the year, including surveys with appropriate UPMC personnel when the Insurer requires a physical plant walkthrough to assess the liability/exposure issues.
  • Assist in the administration of UPMC's Corporate Insurance Program, including several affiliated stand-alone programs, which entails obtaining the broadest coverage and/or risk financing arrangements available at the most competitive rates in the commercial market place, while minimizing the liability and inherent risks associated with the operations of UPMC. This also includes maintaining and updating all underwriting criteria for UPMC for all lines of insurance coverage. Ensure that all information is accurately assessed and have full understanding and knowledge of the information obtained, so that determinations, such as coverage limits, policy structure, pricing, deductible levels and other necessary criteria, can be made in order to obtain the appropriate insurance coverage/structure.
  • Responsible to ensure that all UPMC Construction Projects are adequately insured through UPMC Builders Risk Policy, including reviewing UPMC's front end construction documents on an annual basis and making any necessary/appropriate language changes.
  • Meet with loss control representatives or underwriters for property, general liability and garage/auto insurance. Discuss recommendations set forth by the engineers and address each by complying with the request or implementing alternate methods.
  • Review and make recommendations with regard to combining appropriate insurance policies/programs or determine other risk financing alternatives.
  • Administer General Liability Insurance coverage for all UPMC special functions, projects and events.
  • Review each insurance policy two months prior to the renewal date. Meet with appropriate internal/external personnel to update policy exposures, including external factors, etc. Complete all necessary insurance application, including providing all relevant renewal information to broker/carrier and present marketing strategy to the Director for each policy renewal.
  • Maintain records of all Certificates of Insurance received by UPMC.
  • Conduct Insurance Policy review when renewal policy is received to ensure policy was issued in accordance with UPMC renewal instructions and inherent exposures.
  • Recommend renewal terms and options to the Director verbally and in writing within a reasonable time frame prior to the renewal date. Prepare memo outlining recommendation to Senior VP of UPMC for all renewals.
  • Maintain comprehensive UPMC property policy schedule, which includes, all locations by UPMC entity, respective values or real and personal property, premiums, sq. footage and any special notations.
  • Cooperate with the UPMC various accounting departments in answering all questions related to premiums and/or losses and submit a thorough review/explanation of premium.
  • Maintain a master UPMC Insurance Schedule/database which should include all insurance policies by insured entity, policy numbers, insurance company name, renewal dates, premiums and other pertinent information.
  • Maintain electronic repository of all UPMC Commercial Insurance Policies, including all pertinent correspondence and all endorsements.

 

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and five years of experience with a broker or insurance company
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Communications and three years of experience with a broker or insurance company
