UPMC Magee Digital Content Specialist

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Digital Content Specialist to support the 9762 - 9762 MATRIX: A USAID Project (Hillier) department!

This position will work the daylight shift. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

The digital content specialist coordinates and develops digital content for online channels like web, email, and social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Digital content will be designed to attract and engage both internal and external audiences in support of MATRIX, a USAID-funded project based at MWRI focusing on the research and development of HIV prevention products in collaboration with 19 partner organizations in the US and Africa. This role is critical to establishing and maintaining a social media presence, engaging with key audiences, distilling and disseminating new research findings, and featuring human-interest stories about this work. This role will work closely with a variety of collaborators, from front-end designers and IT developers to internal clients. Professional social media management experience with fluent knowledge of organic and paid versions of different platforms, social media analytics, and content creation practices are vital to this role. The ideal candidate is a natural storyteller, detailed-oriented, and able to work both independently and closely with a team.

Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI) is the largest freestanding women’s health research organization in the U.S. Since MWRI was established in 1992, the organization has been home to a diverse group of clinical, translational, and basic scientists and investigators focused on the health of women.

The research group of Dr. Sharon Hillier is recruiting for a Digital Content Specialist to support MATRIX: A USAID Project to Advance the Research and Development of Innovative HIV Prevention Products for Women. MATRIX includes 18 partner organizations and product developers working together to inform and accelerate early Research and Development for new HIV prevention products by providing an innovative ecosystem in which early-stage HIV prevention technologies can be advanced. This global cooperative agreement aims to significantly impact women and their options for HIV prevention.

Responsibilities:

  • Writes and develops original and engaging content for social media platforms that is in keeping with overall communications strategy, appropriate for digital channel(s) and creative, concise, tailored to the audience, and consistent with UPMC style rules.
  • Contributes content, such as profiles and news updates, for posting on the MATRIX website.
  • Develops and/or oversees the development of infographics for use on multiple media platforms, including social media, web, PowerPoint and print.
  • Coordinates day-to-day management with communications director  to ensure digital channel updates are consistent with overarching strategy and campaigns.
  • Conducts ongoing content audit to ensure accuracy of digital properties Creates and maintains editorial content calendars for digital channel(s)
  • Contributes creative ideas on how to leverage digital media to help optimize and achieve the
  • Objectives of the MATRIX program.
  • Monitors up and downtime of sites, social channels, and email platform for errors like broken links, misspellings and works to resolve rapidly, as they occur
  • Conducts reporting and analysis of digital marketing campaigns.
  • Partners with web developers and IT to deliver functional requirements, content documents, front end mockups, timeline expectations and prioritization list to ensure smooth workflows and project realization
  • QA tests digital media to ensure content accuracy, full functionality and user experience that matches mockup designs
  • Assesses digital strategy requests from a web perspective and recommend enhancements or landing page additions to support key initiatives
  • Ensures web properties such as public sites, landing pages and blogs are accurate, indexed as appropriate, tracked in Google Analytics, and on target for upgrades as needed
  • Meets all regulatory requirements such as 508 compliance for web readability, 1557 web language functionality, CAN- SPAM email communication requirements and all internal privacy requirements
  • Applies SEO best practices and related content management techniques to website content. Partnesr with Search Engine Specialist to implement SEO content checklist and benchmark performance
  • Manages projects of varying levels of complexity and sophistication.
  • Interacts with clients and colleagues effectively to obtain material for and approval of projects.
  • Communicates project status information in a timely manner to appropriate departmental parties throughout all phases of each project.
  • Handles multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritizes projects appropriately. Completes projects on time and within budget.
  • Assists and/or serves as backup for the Communications Director on other projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrates service-oriented behavior in interactions with clients and co-workers.
  • *Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • *Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Marketing Technology, Advertising, Journalism, Communications, Web Development, and Digital Marketing.
  • 2-5 years experience producing Web, managing an online presence via social media, email or digital content management in a communications position or related field such as website development, journalism, marketing/advertising or health sciences.
  • Familiarity with content management systems, website design principles, and content-related search engine optimization (SEO) best practices required.
  • Google Analytics Certification preferred.
  • Experience with a professional grade email platform like IBM, Silver Pop, Exact TargetMailChimp, or Constant Contact preferred.
  • Knowledge of social media management and listening platforms a plus.
  • Site maintenance tool experience such as Siteimprove a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) preferred.
  • Excellent collaboration, multitasking, organizational, research/interviewing, writing,  editing, graphic design and interpersonal skills essential. Willingness to learn new platforms
