Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Nursing Instructor

A nursing professional who has the authority, responsibility and accountability for both the didactic and clinical instruction of students in utilizing the nursing process to provide quality patient care. This position requires the ability to effectively instruct nursing students in the classroom as well as lead the faculty within the course to provide meaningful learning experiences, guide and evaluate the students in the clinical environment while utilizing the nursing process during the provision of care to ensure safe nursing care and quality patient outcomes.

  • Promotes creative and innovative teaching learning strategies in the classroom and during the clinical experience.Participates in strategy development for educational changes at UPMC Schools of Nursing.Utilizes leadership skills to shape and implement change across all the schools of nursing.Demonstrates a commitment to nursing, the school and the program goals.Serves as a professional role model for students in the classroom and in the clinical area.Demonstrates leadership abilities in working with multiple faculty and students in the educational environment. Serves as co-chair of school committees as assigned.



  • MSN required
  • 3 years of clinical practice
  • Precepting experience required; clinical teaching experience in prelicensure program preferred
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Certified Nurse Educator certification preferred.
  • Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
  • UPMC approved certification, preferred.
  • CPR Certification for BLS for Health Care Providers.
  • Have Act 33, 34 and 73 (FBI) clearances.
  • Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
