UPMC McKeesport Outpatient Pharmacy is currently hiring a fulltime Pharmacy Ops Specialist to join our team.  This position will mainly work a daylight shift (8:30 am to 5:00 pm), Monday thru Friday.  Based on business needs, this position may also need work a weekend shift (Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm).

Purpose:
The Pharmacy Operations Specialist, Intermediate provides operational support within pharmacy by demonstrating proficient knowledge of the responsibilities of a designated pharmacy role (i.e. Inventory Control, Chemotherapy, Medication Safety, Automation, and Information Technology etc) Will act as a Mentor to the Pharmacy Ops Specialist, Associate. The Pharmacy Operations Specialist, Intermediate services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and evaluate policy, procedure, and training materials regarding operational workflow of designated area
  • Assist in training other Operations Specialists in determining their ability to function in DESIGNATED area of the Pharmacy department.
  • Provide and received information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.

  • Oversee and instruct other associates in the DESIGNATED area regarding day-to-day activities.

  • Ensure that all medications in all areas have been safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

  • Use computer skills to process and document information as needed for Operations Specialist's designated area
  • Take an active role in the training of fellow staff members in ones area of expertise.
  • Provide feedback to the needs of the department and other associates in a respectful and effective manner consistent with UPMC values
  • Perform assigned job responsibilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required OR Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program
  • AND Three years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Operations Specialist.
  • Must have demonstrated competency in all detailed aspects of the Pharmacy Operations Specialists DESIGNATED area which includes (Inventory Control, Chemotherapy, Medication Safety, Automation, Information Technology...etc).

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certification in Specialty Area AND/OR Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Act 34
